Hmmm... It would appear we have a classic matter of the head not knowing what the tail is doing.

Today, I received a letter from the adsense team telling me of a fantastic way to attract more people to my website... Adwords! Hurray! Along withn the letter came a shiningly beautiful orange coupon, with a code that my adwords account ofcourse refuses to acknowledge (your account has been active for too long, blah-dee-blah).

So... Now the adsense team wants me to put my account on the line by driving paid traffic to my adsense-sponsored site? And why am I getting this invitation at al? I've had an adwords account for years now...

Had one as well, GBP75 which would have been a very nice starter if I hadn't registered an account a couple of years ago and then never got around to using it.

Are these restricted to your name? Else I might hand it out to a friend who could use it.

Nah, use it yourself but point the site to your competitor instead, and make sure it lands on a page with adsense on it. ;)

I have at least 20. Mostly for new clients, but they sent at least a couple to me on my AdSense address too. Can't use 'em cause I already have an account. I think they're just blanketing the world with them at the moment.

I really wish Google would give out USABLE coupons to those of us who already have accounts. Show us some love too, Google! I know, I know, you are looking for new clients, I get that, but hey, a coupon to old clients might spur us to spend more, ya know? I do have sites that don't have adsense on them, so I could make use of adwords on those, without any arbitrage issues.

In the snail mail this very minute I received the same voucher for $75.00, presumably $A, from the OZ branch of AdWords.

Did come with a freecall number "For Help in getting started".

I'm not taking the risk of being thrown out for arbitrage.

I've had an account for years but stopped using it the day the issue of "arbitrage" surfaced. How far back was that?

75 pound, 75 dollar.. funny, i received one for 75 euro few days ago. currency obviously doesn't matter :)

Right, IanCP, I wouldn't use it for any site that I have Adsense ads on. But I do have some sites that don't run Adsense, so I would be happy to get a little encouragement to spend more on those.

I fully agree. I received this letter 3-4 times in last 3 months. Once i called up the toll free number and the guy started explaining me all the thing about adwords and how adwords work and all. He did not knew that i have received it because i had adsense account. so its really a case right hand not knowing what left hand is doing. So if left hand slap you its not because right hand has given you something :) funny but not so funny if your account gets disabled because of this promotion.

LOL. 75 Euro voucher here as well. Binned it w/o even bothering to open or to read.

When I was actively using Adsense, I always wondered how these massive hand-outs of Adwords vouchers actually reflect in Google's earnings announcements? Clearly, this is marketing, and I'd say it is quite expensive (just think of the postage!).

Also impact on the Adsense ecosystem would be interesting to know: could it be that EPC temporarily jumps up due to inexperienced and uncaring new Adwords users using the voucher they received?

I just received one today worth $100 now and $75 after March 5th (it expires March 31st). It looks like a Valentine's Day card, and even says "Happy Valentine's Day" inside with XOXO from the Adwords Team. What's funny is that it isn't addressed to me specifically, but to "AdSense Publisher or Current Resident". Guess that part covers all bases.

I'm still not going to use it.

I still don't understand where's the catch here! I got one of those coupons followed the link to register and start asking whether I want to use an existing account and so on. I do have AdWords and AdSense accounts if I open a second AdWords account I jeopardize my adsense?

1: Can you have two adwords accounts ? I don't think you can.
2: Can it jeopardize your adsense account ? Yes. [Can, not will].

I deal with it more simply: Anything giggle sends me I treat as spam. Why? They have no customer support, except for their new little gadget in the cell phone biz...

On the one that I recieved there was nothing in the printed matter to say that I couldn't open a second account to use the voucher, that information is hidden away on the web. No doubt there are a lot of people out there who don't burrow through web sites to find the small print and who will open as many accounts as they have available email addresses.

I am rather tempted to send the whole package to my local Trading Standards office on the grounds that it looks like a scam to enable G to grab any unpaid Adsense earnings.

I received one in Canada yesterday for $100. I already have an Adwords account that I haven't used in years. Since it states that it's for new Adwords accounts, then I guess it's useless right? If that's the case why did they bother to send it? If they know my name and address surely they know that I have an Adwords account?

As a publisher, I'd like to be able to send an invitation to join AdWords (in the form of a Google voucher) to some businesses.

I'd be willing to forgo my earnings from those ads up until the advertiser exhausted the amount of the voucher.

Haha you guys are just tossing them?!

If anyone has one they don't want, I could definitely use it; I've been thinking of trying AdWords out.

What is so funny about that ?

Will you be laughing if Google closed your account because of arbitrage?

I think you misunderstood me... I just found it amusing you guys were throwing away $100 vouchers; I know on some forums people sell them and stuff.

I've been trying to get one for awhile so I could give Adwords a good trial.

I understand that you can't use them for driving traffic to an Adsense site, and I can totally understand your frusteration about them being useless to you for Adsense... but at the same time they're still valuable for something :P

This forum is well respected and above others. We leave out that sort of thing here.

I am not frustrated whatsoever. If I want to use adwords, I will. Voucher or no voucher.

You would put all that ink in your garden? Remind me to never borrow tomatoes from you ;-)

Anyhow, thanks for the clarification.

jstevens;
Welcome to WW and the AdSense forum.

I can't speak for others here, but I don't use AdWords, and the voucher they sent me is non-transferable and can not be sold, at least that's what it says on the card.

Again, welcome to Ww, lots of good info here.

I mix it with the horse kack and rabbit droppings. They go well together :)
