Today eCPM is down 40%, CTR is down 20% from average.
My Youtube partner earnings are unaffected and appear totally normal.
Anybody else seeing a dramatic decrease in earnings today?
2 webmaster friends of mine have noticed the same, so I'm not alone, but that aside, it still sucks that they do there "maintenance days" and really, it's just a way for them to tweak settings to lower our earnings.
i'm thinking it might be to do with the heavy snow
Exactly.
Too much snow also causes lost power.
Not that it probably effected your earnings, but the 6.5 quake in No. Cali yesterday put about 10K in the dark for a while.

When we don't earn, Google doesn't earn, because Google takes a percentage of the earnings.
I'm sure that's exactly what they're doing working hard to figure out new ways to lower their own earnings.
AdSense is just like Google search in one respect, anything they change will cause some people to rank or earn better than others, change something else and the pendulum swings the other direction.
If you're blessed by Google you get the best of both worlds, wicked ranking in the SERPs and high paying earnings that aren't smart priced all to hell.

Does Google AdSense Maintenance Cause Lower AdSense Earnings?
Maintenance days have never seemed to affect my earnings either way. But that's just me.
I wonder if there would be a large enough sample to draw a meaningful conclusion from if every publisher who uses AdSense and is also a member of this forum posted in this thread.
If traffic was down, i'd understand but it's not. As I said in my first post, CPC and CTR are the stats that are down.
When we don't earn, Google doesn't earn, because Google takes a percentage of the earnings.
Sorry but that's way too simplistic and bias. CPC drops could easily be because Google are taking a larger percentage of our earnings. TBH lower earnings in general could mean Google taking a larger percentage and the figures are just fudged to indicate a sudden and massive drop in CTR or CPC. So really, lowering our earnings could well higher their own.
The benefits of not divulging the profit splits I guess!
Of course, I could be wrong, but why do the majority of publishers earnings lower after maintenance. I'm open to ideas but never has anybody made a guess that's even seemed feasible. ASA never tries, as it's unlikely he knows. My ASA doesn't know.
CPC drops could easily be because Google are taking a larger percentage of our earnings.
I'm not recommending you do this, but finding out the answer is quite trivial.
Instead of just guessing, set up a very specific AdWords test and target a specific site and/or very rare keyword, then simply click on your own ads and as soon as your clicks register, cancel the ad campaign.
You'll know exactly how much you paid Google and how much Google paid AdSense.
Like I said, I'm not recommending you do it, but it's been done before and the answer was within expected range of rev share.
Additionally, I've seen the contracts issued to a few premium publishers and our revenue share was very similar to those numbers.
One last thing, as an AdWords advertiser, how much to you think you'll earn if I'm only paying a nickel per click on smart priced ads?

According to my records today is traditionally the day we usually see a strange jump in referrals, earnings etc, I have my doubts this will happen this year.
