Very Low Click Day Thursday October 22, 2009

Anyone else?

Heavens, I've just checked yesterday's stats and they were diabolical compared to average and considering Thursday is usually one of my best days of the week it was even worse than it looks.

Actual clicks -26+%
CTR -28+%

Compared to the average Thursday the earnings were -33+% which is a huge variation for me and to make things even worse it was my lowest-earning day of the month beating even my lowest Saturday or Sunday.

Yucky, yucky, yucky...anyone else see similar or was it just my Google click counter up the swannee?

For me, last wednesday was absolutely abysmal; CTR down a whopping 50%.

I'm not not alarmed however; I think depleting ad budgets are part of the equation. Also, we have this thing called 'autumn holiday' here, which is pushing overall earnings down a bit.

Just two more weeks... Then the big holiday push will begin ;)

I think as time moves on, CTR will decrease as more and more people learn what google ads are unless Google does something different
+
as people get more impatient, all they do is get the info they want from the internet and then close the browser...

try moving around the ads or changing the background color maybe?

daily,

But on the flip side of ad blindness there should be more people clicking on the ads because they know what they are and are interested in the product rather than getting tricked into clicking... This should encourage advertisers to raise their ad budgets with increasing ROI. Do you tink?

I agree in theory, but think most people will search for the product they are looking through Google, Amazon, ... and not through ads. If they dont find it on your site, they will go back to Google and check the link below yours on the SERP's; if they still dont find it they switch to Bing, or other sites.

From my personal experience, I think blending in ads is the only way I can make an average earning/return. Although I hate belnding in ads and prefer to put borders around my ads to make it clear that it is seperate from my content, its the only way I can get CTR's above 3-5%. Most of my other sites get CTR < 1-2% (the ads with borders)

Somethings either way behind today or we have been 90% smart priced.

Wayyyyyyy behind, metrics back to normal but about 2-3 hours short for me.

try moving around the ads

Can't do...I use a standard header, LHS navigation and the occasional RHS column, far too complicated to do and not worth the time and effort.

Here's where everything falls off the cliff!

Since I stopped updating my main directory site expect for blog postings:

[webmasterworld.com...]

my average daily earnings have slowly been increasing and I have seen better daily earnings every day except for yesterday which was a right slap out of the blue!

We'll see what happens today.

Down somewhat yesterday. Today is absolutely dire. Friday tends to be somewhat low but this is too low to be anywhere near real-time. I changed some of the main slots to text only to see if it will make a difference but I've a sitewide redesign ready to launch in the next week so I'll probably shift Adsense slots.

Regards...jmcc

Yep... slower than a sluggish slow-mo snail. I've only made $94,387.38 the past six hours!

drall, it was bad here too. Worse day of the month by far. I may still be on for a record month though.

Anyone else?

The past four days seem to have gone off the boil. I was having a nice month until Thursday and have seen a 25% reduction in earnings just like that purely through lower click volumes.

Whilst everything looks "normal" from here in the UK I wonder if I'm getting some "bad" ads in the USA/Canada?

How long does it last?

One match feels like a week.
AFAIK there are weeks of it to come. It's not my thing, but aware that it's on.

yikes... just checked the NFL schedule. This thing goes on till January doesn't it? Don't think it's the cause of my numbers going down the past 2 days though.

Are you in the UK andrew ?
Isn't it half term now ? I heard that the roads will be chocablock this weekend. So I guess many started early and went on friday.
Who knows, I am just guessing.

I just signed up to this forum as I found this thread looking for what the heck is going on with Adsense this month.

My adsense earning are down by over $1k this month (Oct). It started on just about Oct 1st for me.

Man there is something very wrong going on. Glad to see that it is not only me that is happening too.

HuskyPup

That was an unusual Sunday!

Earnings were on the lowish side until 23.00 UK time then I had a 50% click dump with earnings in an hour and then for the remainder of the night, 8 hours, I had another 33% increase thus making Sunday precisely October's daily earnings' average.

The even better news for me is that I hit my monthly target with 6 full days to go:-)

Yay! Me, too HuskyPup! So, even if the last few days turn bad, still will be a good month! Now, it's just icing on the cake! Thank the Lord!

WolfLover - Bearing in mind it's November next month dare we go for a 10% target increase or play safe'ish with a 5%?

Today is terrible for me

Everything looking normal for me except EPC, loads of low value clicks, about 50% of average so far however we do have the evening/night to come yet.

Well, HuskyPup, I rather play it SAFE and strive for the same as October and be thrilled if it is and ecstatic if it goes over! That way, I hope not to be disappointed.

2009 has been the best year ever, even with some dips in the road, average wise, it's better than any other year for me. I am extremely thankful!
