Different Ads in Domain Root VS Root/index.php

I am currently in the process of trying to implement multiple ad units to the main page of my site. However, only the first of three units will show ads. The rest show PSA's. This happens when I access my site using "mydomain.com", which loads the default page index.php

However, if I type the full path to default index file ("mydomain.com/index.php") I get all kinds of relevant ads that fill every unit on the page.

Anyone know why this is? Or how to fix? I could setup an index.html to redirect so that the domain specifically loads index.php, but I'd like to know what's going on...

The URL is used in part to determine what the content of your page is about. I would make it so extensions like .php aren't there. Also, create a fake /directory/ after your root with the page topic if needed to aid in the targeting of your ads.

The URL is used to help determine page content, but "index.php" doesn't have anything to do with the ads that are being served. I don't think I want to have my domain index being loaded in a sub-directory. If I was to redirect the domain to index.php specifically, would my site be penalized in Google search?

Could I possibly do some sort of mod_rewrite to make the index.php an index.html? Would it even make a difference?

My forum not only can have different ads for Root/ and Root/index.php, the toolbar shows different pageranks. Go figure.

I'm not particularly worried.

I am - my root domain is serving 1 ad and my domain/index.php is serving 9 relevant ads. That's a huge difference. I really need some help in determining the reason for the difference...

This is very strange! I run many many sites set up this same way. www.lalalala.com/index.php

If I type it either way, with no index or not, it still shows all ads. They don't allow URLS here so message me if you want to view one of my sites with it set up this way.

Anyone know what's going on? If you use an index.php for your site, try typing the full path and see if you get the same results.

If I upload an index.html that redirects to index.php, the ads show. Will Google search penalize for doing this?

Anyone know Google's policies on redirects? Can I get away with this without penalty?
