Anyone have earnings down due to Michael Jackson?

For the last 2-3 days our earnings have gone down as traffic has slowed down. Can it be due to MJ's news?

Can it be due to MJ's news?

Doubtful but then again what do I know?

My weekend traffic for quite a while now has been at a lower level than usual however how much this has to do with nicer weather, sports events etc is very difficult to gauge...then again it could just be people with less disposable income not bothering to search for anything in case they become tempted.

One thing I have definitely noticed this Spring/Summer whilst out dog walking is that many more people are out and about compared to previous years in our local parks etc.

Coincidence? Possibly however I think not, the easiest way to remove temptation is not to have it there to begin with and if this means getting out of the house, there could possibly be your answer!

MJ's news didn't have any impact.

But I was hit hard by the Farah Fawcett news.

Then, just as I was about to recover, the Billy Mays news hit the airwaves and my AdSense income is in the tank. :)

It's more likely due to the beginning of the summer vacation season and the approach of the July 4th weekend in the United States.

I have two sites that happen to have some information about Michael Jackson & have seen a massive increase in traffic and adsense earnings. Guess some of that traffic had to come at the expense of others.

The response at my site was curious. The number of visitors dropped noticeably Thursday afternoon, soon after the news came out. But the CTR also increased along with eCPM, and the overall revenue was slightly higher than average for that day. So it seems that there were fewer people, but apparently they were the ones who were going to click the ads, anyway.

By Friday it seems like traffic, CTR, etc was back to normal.

Upcoming 4th of July weekend, already mentioned, will have a MUCH larger impact, overall, than the death of Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Billy Mays, or any other celebrity who might die in the coming months....

July 4th is my best day of the year.

July 5th, not so much.

I'm moon walking all the way to the bank... If not for MJ this might have been my worst month this year.

"Dead people don't tend to make a difference."

True but are you really sure he's dead? After all, loads of people are certain that Elvis never really left the room.

It could all be a publicity stunt. Anyone who hangs their one year old baby (was it his?) out of a hotel window has to be capable of anything. Maybe the baby wasn't a real one, maybe it was a life like doll. Let's start the rumour mill going quick this time, it took a year or so before the Elvis rumours really got a hold.

On a lighter note, how many MJ text jokes have you received so far? I've receieved five, none of which can be repeated here. The one about Bubbles the monkey with a smile on its face and the hand with a white glove on was particularly (snigger, snigger) repulsive!

I see it constantly now. Anything popular they just display non profit ads until it blows over any traffic spikes these kids are all over it and they pull all ads.

Seen it on all sites other than theirs

It's probably the end of the month syndrome. Happens every month during the last few days of the month.

Just is always seasonally bad for me, but this year is worse. I would blame the economy.

It was the Gail Storm thingy that did it for me.

I'm not positive but I think we're having a relapse from the day when news broke that Michael Jackson died. Right now several sites are broadcasting the memorial service live from Staples Center. I have a feeling that event is capturing a lot of the usual traffic.

Although I did benefit from additional traffic generally in my niche, things are real slow over here today too.

Traffic and clicks were down this morning. Now that the ceremony has been over for a few hours, I see things picking back up again...

I am more surprised that I'm *not* seeing any MJ ads on my site (yet). I'm sure the market has been flooded with them already.

The site of mine I was seeing them on (blocked now) was mostly technical Linux pages. Not exactly a hotbed of MJ interest there.

I wondered to myself earlier today if someone would actually start a thread about Michael Jackson souring their earnings.
