Bank Holiday/Memorial Day Weekend

Just to let non-US/UK publishers know: this weekend is Memorial Day weekend in the US, and a bank holiday weekend in the UK. Lots of people in these two countries have the Monday off, and are getting a jump on the weekend on Friday. So expect four days of lower-than-normal traffic and earnings....

And hey, if you live in the US or the UK--get away from your computer and go do something outdoors!

Unfortunately we just went through one month of what Adsense has said to be bank holidays causing our Adsense payments to come later in the month - and it looks like its going to be this same way this month as well

FWIW in quite a few countries outside the UK and the US there's an extra long weekend as well due to "Ascension" [I hope I translated that right] (thu-fri-sat-sun).

If that indeed overlaps with Memorial day in the US, we've got a bigger than usual holiday on our hands.

The worst thing about Memorial Day is that's when the ad budgets seem to disappear in my niche. On top of that, this year Memorial Day is as early as it can possibly be. If it was next weekend instead of this one I'd get a whole extra week of higher ad revenue.

My stats so far are rather neutral:
Thu: slightly lower
Fri: about average
Sat: slightly above average

Average taken on the ongoing month to offset any "crisis" panic and seasonal effects.

Thursday was way above average. Friday was fine until midday and then it hit a slump when everyone left early for the long weekend. Saturday was average, and today has been absolutely abysmal, the worst day in months.

I haven't seen much impact from the holiday weekend. Yesterday's impressions were down a tiny bit (maybe 7 or 8 percent) from the previous two Saturdays, but eCPM was considerably higher than normal, and earnings were higher than on any day this month except May 4 and May 12.

Affiliate revenues have been surprisingly strong, too. Why? For my topic, we're getting into "fish or cut bait" season (using that phrase figuratively, not literally), and Memorial Day/Ascension Day weekend is a reminder that summer is almost upon us.
