I wonder how many sites are close to shutting down altogether?
What I am wondering is how much traffic has been lost as a result of people becoming unemployed. They sure can't surf the net from their offices anymore and they may also have ended their internet access at home as a cost cutting measure.
Hey CWebguy...I think the proverbial "balloon" has been expanded, and expanded and . . . . .KABOOM - think of all the sites in people's competitive ad filters just sitting there. Do you see my meaning? Well, I guess if anyone gets banned from adsense in the months to come, it won't mean a damn....
well, I have a feeling this maybe related to the new interest based advertising, which happened to coincidentally be released around the time when all this hit.
Let's look at things rationally:
1) Just because John Doe thinks he's having a bad day at 3 a.m. Pacific time doesn't mean everybody is having the same experience, or even that John Doe will have had a bad day when 24 hours' worth of stats are in.
2) AdSense doesn't exist in a bubble. The world economy isn't the greatest of shape right now, ad agencies have been laying off employees left and right, and even Google is feeling the pinch. Why would John Doe think he's immune?
3) Getting back to the original topic of this thread, editorial diversity may be one reason why some of us don't experience the sharp spikes and dips that drive some of you nuts. Traffic volume could be another factor. AdSense earnings are a lot like search referrals: If you get most of your earnings or traffic from a handful of "money" keywords, you're going to see more volatility than you would if most of your earnings and traffic came from the "long tail."
4) AdSense is just one way to earn revenue from a Web site. If it isn't working for you, don't get mad; look for alternatives or supplementary revenue streams. (Some of you have the notion that I'm an AdSense evangelist, but you couldn't be more wrong: AdSense ranks #3 or #4 among my revenue sources at any given time. I've been an AdSense publisher since 2003, but AdSense has never been my sole or even my primary source of Web revenue. If AdSense is the only way you can think of to earn money from your site, then it may be useful to ask yourself why that's the case and what you can do about it.)
I don't think it's mean spirited by anyone here, it's more FRUSTRATION - I seem to understand that. I was trying to learn HTML a few years ago....would get frustrated. Someone said a good tip is to go out and take a walk, and forget about this wacky stuff. You know what - it helps!
My site visitors and page views are all are normal, the only thing I see as abnormal is AdSense's sudden and massive decline.
This has nothing to do with the economical situation, it didn't suddenly happen in the past few days and send many into a non-clicking panic!
Only a genuine clarification from Google is going to take away the broken program and conspiracy theories.
Since about 5 days, thing went abysmal: more than a 50% less CTR!. I'm kind of glad to know I'm not alone and this things are also happening to USA people... so maybe something IS broken.
Do you think we will ever get some feedback on this?
Today, my stats are a little better than the past 7 days but they're still far worse than a usual bad day.
I am praying this weeks maintenance is to resolve the sudden and massive drop in earnings some of us have experienced.
