I hate to start this thread, because we all know the reporting has been haywire lately and it is early(ish).

But at 12.15 in the UK they are looking beyond FUBAR'd for me.

Anyone else?

I wonder how many sites are close to shutting down altogether?

Mine won't be, but they may go back to being as they had been for many years - advertising free. No big deal to me.

What I am wondering is how much traffic has been lost as a result of people becoming unemployed. They sure can't surf the net from their offices anymore and they may also have ended their internet access at home as a cost cutting measure.

In the same way, you may have more people with more time to surf the internet, me would thinks

I found a site with a 160x600 sidebar, but with only one ad showing (and not one of the large ones either). Weird.

Don't forget it is Mother's Day in the States. I expect many people are doing other things than browsing.

Hey CWebguy...I think the proverbial "balloon" has been expanded, and expanded and . . . . .KABOOM - think of all the sites in people's competitive ad filters just sitting there. Do you see my meaning? Well, I guess if anyone gets banned from adsense in the months to come, it won't mean a damn....

These 4 days (7-8-9-10 May) are in my 6 worst days CTR-wise for the last two years on my main channel. Also, impressions seem to be way undercounted today.

well, I have a feeling this maybe related to the new interest based advertising, which happened to coincidentally be released around the time when all this hit.

TO ALL (CWebguy prompted me to search), and I found this:
[google.com...]
And to date, I haven't added any interest categories in my acct. Which leads me to ask your collective input: SHOULD WE?

This thread seems to have evolved from "my stats on the morning of May 9th" to "my AdSense earnings are down permanently, AdSense sucks, and anyone who doesn't agree with my conspiracy theories must be in Google's pocket."

Let's look at things rationally:

1) Just because John Doe thinks he's having a bad day at 3 a.m. Pacific time doesn't mean everybody is having the same experience, or even that John Doe will have had a bad day when 24 hours' worth of stats are in.

2) AdSense doesn't exist in a bubble. The world economy isn't the greatest of shape right now, ad agencies have been laying off employees left and right, and even Google is feeling the pinch. Why would John Doe think he's immune?

3) Getting back to the original topic of this thread, editorial diversity may be one reason why some of us don't experience the sharp spikes and dips that drive some of you nuts. Traffic volume could be another factor. AdSense earnings are a lot like search referrals: If you get most of your earnings or traffic from a handful of "money" keywords, you're going to see more volatility than you would if most of your earnings and traffic came from the "long tail."

4) AdSense is just one way to earn revenue from a Web site. If it isn't working for you, don't get mad; look for alternatives or supplementary revenue streams. (Some of you have the notion that I'm an AdSense evangelist, but you couldn't be more wrong: AdSense ranks #3 or #4 among my revenue sources at any given time. I've been an AdSense publisher since 2003, but AdSense has never been my sole or even my primary source of Web revenue. If AdSense is the only way you can think of to earn money from your site, then it may be useful to ask yourself why that's the case and what you can do about it.)

Reminds me how back in the day, the top affiliate guys used to say, you can make more without Adsense if you are willing to do your research.

But I like Adsense causes it's easy for me :)

Viva la Revolucion!

Signor_John: Finally glad you got in on this. Your input is highly appreciated....hear hear on the fact adsense isn't the only one out there to choose from. All points well taken. I did hear last week or 10 days ago big G laying some people off....who knew! I still wouldn't want to buy any stocks in any companies no matter how good they do. I tried that during the tech stock bubble and two weeks later all hell broke loose and I lost a decent amount of money. I put it all in tax deferred money market accounts. BUT, do you, or any others here feel the link I previously posted may be worth getting into? I mean listing your various web sites if you have them? What do you think?

I don't think it's mean spirited by anyone here, it's more FRUSTRATION - I seem to understand that. I was trying to learn HTML a few years ago....would get frustrated. Someone said a good tip is to go out and take a walk, and forget about this wacky stuff. You know what - it helps!

I'm glad to know I'm not alone.
A couple of months back I thought I was the only one with earning stats I don't want to look at !

The most significant issue for me is the sudden huge reduction in clicks which makes me believe something is fundamentally broken therefore not being counted and reported.

My site visitors and page views are all are normal, the only thing I see as abnormal is AdSense's sudden and massive decline.

This has nothing to do with the economical situation, it didn't suddenly happen in the past few days and send many into a non-clicking panic!

Only a genuine clarification from Google is going to take away the broken program and conspiracy theories.

Me too. The amount of clicks for this time of day is WAY under average.

Same here - and I usually think this things happen to me because I'm a publisher in Latin America. Yes, Latin American ads pay MUCH less, but CTR is usually good.

Since about 5 days, thing went abysmal: more than a 50% less CTR!. I'm kind of glad to know I'm not alone and this things are also happening to USA people... so maybe something IS broken.

Do you think we will ever get some feedback on this?

I used to joke that my AdSense earnings were just enough to feed my pets. Lately it's looking like that may be not too far from truth.

Same here - 'massive' decline in earnings.

I've been a pretty loyal fan of Adsense for a long-time now, but I'm scratching my head over this recently and I'm changing the business model focus from Adsense to affiliate.

Shame shame

My page impressions are normal.

my CTR has gone from around 2% to around .2% for the third successive day.

Whats happening? Are clicks which were considered genuine before suddenly being rejected for some reason?

why don't they enlighten us?

My CTR halved a while back, from 4% to 1.5-2%. Rather sudden and unexpected.

Today, my stats are a little better than the past 7 days but they're still far worse than a usual bad day.

I am praying this weeks maintenance is to resolve the sudden and massive drop in earnings some of us have experienced.
