Tax Issue with AdSense

Schedule C on such a low amount?

I gave up on AdSense a long time ago, but of course made just barely over $600 last year. Does anybody think it would be an issue to just stick that on "extra income" and not do the whole Schedule C and everything? I can't believe they'd make a big deal out of such a small amount if I didn't. Has anybody else been popped for not using the schedule C on such a low amount of AdSense earnings?

I think this is the wrong place to seek tax advice. Read the Schedule C instructions and/or talk to an accountant.

Won't make a big deal of it? Politicians are looking for every penny they can find to spend on things that will get them votes next election - don't assume anything will be ignored.

Too bad for you if that's your only self-employment income, but if I were you I'd report it in the way you are supposed to. Google has sent out 1099s, so the IRS will know you had that income, and that it wasn't reported properly.

As Farmboy said, check with an accountant. However, I think that you might be able to take some of your deductions on a schedule C. Iow, you can take obvious things like hosting and domain fees. So, it google paid you 600, you ***Might*** be able to take about 150 off for hosting.

You might also be able to put in things like items or services you purchased in order to do reviews etc.

Be careful with your local jurisdiction. As farmboy also mentioned, governments are looking for money. We have a lot of goofy, complicated rules about local taxes.

Get tax software and plug in the numbers and be done with it. Schedule C is not that complicated for simple self-employment situations.

Thanks... I did the C. It just annoyed me for it being just barely over. But I know that doesn't matter to the tax collector.
