We've seen a drop in the last few days in our Adsense earnings, even though our traffic and pageviews have gone up. Curious if it is a targeting issue, or something else.

To me a clear downward trend started Sunday January 4th and ended Friday January 30th (I'm looking at the Adsense integrated Analytics income per 1000 visitors (not pageviews). It was pretty stable until March 5th where I took a big hit (50% down). Which may have to do with the targeting bug. Yesterday however is higher (income per 1000 visitors) as ever before (since this Analytics thingy was implemented (December 11th 2008 on my site)).

I share your pain. Today and yesterday- both bad.:( the worst in a long time. The ads appear to be targeted and my traffic is typical for a Saturday.

it seems the contextual relevance system is broken. ads are not showing on many pages, which has caused the low CTR.

Fingers crossed my metrics seem to have returned to normal, hopefully they have resolved their problems.

Mine is buggered. Really low ecpm, almost half what it was prior. CTR seems ridiculously low though.

Something really bizarre has been going on for the past few weeks though with my account. One day I'd have high CTR, low CPC, next day CTR would halve and CPC double. Yet daily earnings were pretty much the same day in day out. Some kind of weird experimentation I think.

I guess all I can do is ride it out.

I believe Google has as of 4 days ago, massively reduced the amount of revenue paid to publishers.

Just an idea: could it be G is injecting more and more DoubleC ads with every "maintenance" and the system have to show these ads on your site in order to see if they work (=get clicks) there. This results poor CTR (lot of out-of-target ads) pretty much every maintenance day, and as the adsense system learns which ads work on which pages, they CTR slowly starts to recover a bit. This would explain why the CTR has been slowly but surely decreasing over the last 6 months.

I'm just wondering which is bigger cause of this current downtrend: global economic crisis or doublec ads.

Saturday 7th ended up completely 2009 normal for me but what I have definitely noticed is that accessing my account is much faster now, hardly any hang and no time-outs.

Maybe they're rolling out some new system and we all got caught up in the crossfire and it's still not been totally updated for everyone?

I don't believe they are massively reduced the amount of revenue paid to publishers based on certain per click amounts I have noticed. I am seeing more off targeted ads which might explain the drop in CTR and I'm seeing more random font changes which I think could also be affecting many publishers.

Just my main stats are naff. I think I'm going to remove adsense from all my gallery pages today.

btw, on the issue of not 'lowering our share', you may be right. Average EPC couldn't decline further on this site I'm seeing.

CTR was low. Not 50% worse, but still very low.
Made me wonder how well they 'fixed' contextual targeting, so I checked in on a few dozen pages.

and yes... ads were off.
just... completely off.

Saturday 7th March was among the worst 15 days EVER, eCPM wise. The more I think of it, the more I come to the conclusion that I am going to pull ads off my sites slowly. There is no point in playing the nasty Adsense game any longer.
