How many pages do you add each month to your site to maintain good search engine placement and to maximize adsense income? Or does it matter?

Thanks

The real benefit of adding pages is that each new page is another site entry point and source of revenue. Add 50 pages a month, for example, and you'll have 600 more pages earning money for you every year.

Ideally, each new page will have intrinsic value, so that you'll be building a solid and steadily growing base of content that can be monetized with both AdSense and other revenue streams (which could be much more profitable than AdSense) over the long term.

Quantity doesn't matter as much as quality. You need great quality articles, not a great quantity of them.

Why not have both? Add one decent page per day during a 5-day work week, and you'll have 250+ new pages at the end of the year. In five years, you'll have 1,250 pages that you didn't have when you began.

Do that and you'll have that many "decent" pages. Whatever that means.

Personally, I strive for top quality. Nothing else will do in my opinion. I've had pages get picked up by the national media that bring in 10's of thousands of visitors a day. This is for a single article. The income is substantial. The traffic huge. Or you can go the "decent" route and hope for a trickle of income per page. Sure, it takes a while to produce each page but you can be really proud of each one.

I may add two or three per month. Or only one. I also spend some time updating and tweaking existing pages. Of course, I don't work full time on my site, or earn anything like a full-time income from it, but for the time I spend on it I'm very happy with the earnings....

signor_john, I'm thinking long-term. What good is 1,000 pages if it's not useful unique content that people will want to read?

I like the idea of 1 page per weekday, it sounds like a good goal. Hey, as long as you can crank out good unique content at that rate, great! I average about 1-2 pages per week, sometimes none ;-) ... I'm thinking long-term so I tend to write my articles from the perspective that I want that page to rank well and get traffic for years to come. Instead of thinking how can I make money off this site this week, this month I think how can I make this generate me money each month over the next 2, 5, or 10 years?

My oldest site is almost 9 years old and I'm confident it's still going to be around in another 9 years and still bringing in the money whether it's monetized by AdSense or something else.

My point is don't worry so much about how many pages to create, worry about writing something that counts and people will want to read and if that's 1 article per day or 1 article per month, then great. But I realize not everyone thinks like me LOL! Good luck.

Well I'll shock everyone.

As a matter of fact I haven't added anything significant since 2001

Yes, I've earned [and continue to do so] big $$$ with AdSense, Amazon and CJ since then. Now some folks tell me over the years [particularly a wife] that if I would actually apply myself then I could surely earn 4 X big $$$.

My reply is simply:

Why?

Progressing to December, 2008

Look at all the Wall Street jerks now. Some people actually still envy them!

I eat three nutritious meals a day, I sleep well, I'm comfortable with myself, in fact I live a life of modest comfort.

For me to add pages to my site would entail about 14 days of hard work and I could name 100 sites with more compelling content on any topic I might care to think of.

In my genre of electronics we have an expression!

Literally that means "man made noise".

There's already too much of it, adding pages which are not new, original and more importantly, valuable content is simply adding to that noise.

Call me a fuddy-duddy.
