Have one site that gets fairly steady traffic. One day last week traffic went way up and AdSense CTR on the homepage stayed about normal. It all looked okay except I could not find where the traffic came from. It did not show up in my logs. The same thing is happening today. I installed a stats reader on the page and it is showing a lot of IP addresses that have 15 digits and no periods in them. Does anyone know what this is? The revenue is nice but I am worried about this traffic and have taken AdSense off the page until I figure out what is happening.

That seems odd. Are there any referrers for those numbers, or are they just type-ins?

Sometimes weird anomalies happen. I have a site that normally gets only a trickle of traffic (it's about a rather obscure pair of hollywood stars from the 30's) Last week I suddenly got this rush of traffic - like several hundred times what I usually see, only on one page, and all with the same search string (the name of one of their movies) Tore my hair out trying to figure out why this was happening (was the movie being shown somewhere? were they in the news?) Mentioned it by chance to my mother, who is a crossword fanatic, and turns out they were the clue to a major newspaper crossword that day, for which my site came up first.

(Kind of disturbing to know how many people look up crossword answers in Google, but there it is)

You sure you didn't put a new ad unit on the page? Doubling the impressions?

I sometimes also find a single visitor opening my site 4 or 5 times from google in 1 minute. May be accidental middle-clicking or something...

The traffic returned to normal again. Still can't find where it came from. Didn't add an additional ad unit so can't be that. I hope it does not happen again because it will drive me crazy.

I get a lot of that, sometimes over more than a minute. I think it is people exiting the site returning to the Google result page using the back button then clicking my result again.

In any case I find dozens of people hitting my site over and over sometimes 20-30 times and more with the same obscure search string/phrase...

That would have no impact on your PAGE impressions.
