Message Too Old, No Replies

Why am I getting nonsense (SPAM) from Google?

Who cares about survey widgets?

Why is the Inside AdSense Blog writing about (and sending me an email about) Live Surveys for my site? Are they somehow monetized in a way that I am not aware? Do they intend to advertise all of their non-AdSense properties to me on the blog about AdSense?

Shall I brace for MySpace ads coming from Google soon?

Let's create a survey about it:

I really don't appreciate the SPAM.
Do you?

A) Oh, they just want to help you make your site better, c'mon!
B) It's Google, let'em do whatever they want, they will anyway.
C) See B

WooHooYeahAllRight,
(What does that nick that mean?)

It's probably AdSense not the AdSense blog:

Go to My Account > Language and Contact Preferences
Click the blue <edit> link
Untick the box that says:

In addition, send me periodic newsletters with tips and best practices and occasional surveys to help Google improve AdSense

Bingo!

Why are you getting the email?

Is there a line at the bottom of the email that says something like....

You got this email because subscribed to the blah blah blah.

I think Hobbs nailed it.

Now a question for all of the conspiracy theorists out there: If I uncheck that box, will Google somnehow be offended and penalize me with lower eCPM?

:)

Ok, so why might they be writing about this in the first place.

I'd bet that a whole bunch of publishers who use AdSense would find this stuff very interesting and helpful.

Surveys are always useful, but if the data is shared with G, and specifically it ties in with AdSense in some way, isn't that pushing it just a bit too much?

I mean, being able to track what visitors think about your site? That's got the potential to be scary.

But in what way does the receptiveness of visitors to your site aid in the serving of relevant ads?

now imagine if we all made nicks of sounds our body make, or parents naming their kids after big events that took place the day their children were conceived, or the first thing they see after the baby is born ..

That's more fun to discuss than a hundred+ Billion dollar company making money out of sending spam to someone called "WooHoo" :-)

What the heck does my user name have anything to do with the issue I raise? Do you ignore and/or shame everyone named Monica too? I bet you do.

OK I'll just be sure to send them newsy bits from my site's blogs since we have a business relationship. I guess it's OK to send unrelated info that I feel may be of use to them. I'll be sure to allow them to opt out of the feed as long as they also want to opt out of important relevant info as well, like maybe when my visitors ask about the Google ads on my site, I'll just put their emails into my dead letter box instead of forwarding it to them. Hey, they get all or nothing, right?

How many at the GooglePlex do you think suffer from the cruelties of jock itch? ;) About the same as the number of AdSensers who want to create non-monetized surveys using GoogleGoGoGadgets to distract their visitors from the heat map, I'd guess. Well, maybe a few more. What the heck, I'll send it to all of them.

If I was interested in GoogleGadgets, I'd have signed up for that blog if one exits. Like I asked before, am I now to receive lots of goody news bits from all of their ventures? OOOOOOOOOh I can just feel the Froogle spam entering my emailbox now.

I know it's stupid, but so was their email -- It's their third SPAM for "Other Google Products" in a year, but it's the second one in about 2 weeks. I don't like the trend.

Nothing ..
and Everything.

Ok, I'll stop messing with you "WooHoo"
Come on, it's humanly impossible to take you seriously, put yourself in my shoes.

On Spam, unsubscribe/add them to filter/report them, but you know WooHoo those fly by night companies keep changing IPs and sender address so it's a lost battle already :-)

Since surveys can be directly related to publishing websites, they probably thought it was relevant to their adsense publishers.

If your view of what the adsense blog should post about only includes strict adsense related topics, then maybe a "non" email subscription would be best for you so it doesn't intrude on your inbox.

Just because you don't find it relevant or interesting, doesn't mean their other publishers won't find it useful.

One person's stupid email is another person's useful nugget of info :)

If you received this message, it was because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Inside AdSense" group (as you noticed in the footer of the email). In the footer of the mail, you should also find instructions on how you can unsubscribe from the group; send an email to Inside-AdSense-unsubscribe@googlegroups.com .

Thanks for the feedback on the blogpost. As you may be aware, you can now leave your comments there too.

I saw that after I ranted here. I didn't want to rant in multiple places, it's not that big of an issue. ;)

It's just annoying when companies decide to do self promotion, and it is a slippery slope. People who are subscribed to that blog are very Google-savvy. We know the URLs for looking at all of Google's products.

I wouldn't be opposed to a mention of the new and exciting widget inside of a relevant AdSense post on the blog "After you're all blended, if you want to know how your visitors like your new blending scheme, you can always check out our Live Survey [link]" would make sense, but not a whole post about it.
