Ah, and while we're at it, why not enforce a bit of quality upon the advertisers?

My default homepage is google.com/ig. If I want to check my Adsense, I need to logout, then log in to Adsense, then log out, then log back in to my googlemail.com account so I can see my google.com/ig homepage. Arggh!

Can we get rid of the optimization tips? These seem rather outdated. I have not received any update in a long time. (Not that it matters to me that much, just to let you know that these tips were not really helpful.)
Ideally if this could be tracked and integrated into Google Analytics (which I also use heavily) the information could be used when I decide to sell space to third party advertisers. Well that's one of the reasons anyway. Currently I have to guess how much a page is worth and hope that selling ad space doesn't decrease my Adsense income. It's like playing Russian roulette with your salary.
You would then get a better understanding of what the group needs, and they might get a better understanding of Google's position.
This would be helpful also when concerning ideas that the group thinks is good, but Google doesn't. If we understand your reasoning, we might not continually bring up the same items again and again.
I agree, discussing individual features might be a good idea. Unfortunately, this means that Google needs to provide some information (e.g. a one-line feature description). This is probably already considered confidential information, so I wouldn't hold my breath for such a discussion to be started by ASA.
the link to "view all AdSense for Content channels" does not actually show you *all* channels. it only shows channels that received 1 or more page impressions. i recently discovered numerous channels i created years ago, which i no longer use. since they get 0 page impressions they never show up in the traffic reports. it seems to make sense that 0-page-impressions channels would not show up *most of the time* but a way to screen for them once in a while would be handy.
i ended up going one by one, comparing the full channels list with a monthly channels report, finding unused channels that way -- i was nearing the limit on channels, blamed mostly on the fact that i had a lot more unused channels then i realized. i'd imagine others near their limit on channels might have experienced the same.
The AdSense targeting tags don't seem to help in this area.
Poison words are a problem from time to time on pages that can contain user generated content eg. forums, visitor comments etc.
Yes we moderate them, have filter lists etc. But we can't track everything all the time if we don't know what the "naughty word" of the month is. We do our best, but with some help from Google we could do better and don't forget, we're raising revenue for Google as well as the publisher.
Completely disconnecting the user content isn't really an option... it can bring in significant traffic and wouldn't be the "right" thing to do in any case.
For example I often have ads display on my website that are related to dating which is way off subject for my users simply because the word "chat" often appears on my pages. If I could set "Dating" as a low-ranked target channel for my website it would help filter these.
Similarly if my website focuses on autos I would select autos as my highest priority target channel and this would go into the equation of determining ads that appear on my site.
I wouldn't expect this to be a huge portion of the equation (so it's not abused) but it should count. Off the top of my head, the best way to prevent abuse it to allow people to select a percent of their channel dedication. E.g. I want my site defined in these channels... "70% art, 20% technology, 10% software".
I think it is time for a bigger, better, improved filter. Maybe based on keyword filtering:
- filtering for ad headlines
- filtering for ad copy (e.g. "directory", "cheap", "free", "widgets")
- filtering for parts of target URL (e.g. "www-")
- filtering by Adwords account
- filtering by target IP address (or address range), to get rid of all the ads for parked domainsAh, and while we're at it, why not enforce a bit of quality upon the advertisers?
I'll second that!
As someone else said: "prompt and meaningfull communication"
it was Ken_b that just said prompt and meaningful communication, yes, a new strategy where you actually hear, listen, act upon it, and give timely feedback when something goes wrong, or as someone just said prompt and meaningful communication, get that one right, and we will be rushing to give you more suggestions.
I guess the same could be said for google analytics as well. The ability to setup and track multiple user defined variables for a specific page. Right now analytics has the ability to track a single user defined variable, but not multiple ones.
I never click on an ad, on anyone's site, but sometime my mouse flies around and I do not see it. Sometimes I have come so close to clicking an ad when I thought I was clicking something else in another part of the page it panicked me.
Sad state of affairs I know but still...
A little piece of software would put my mind just that little more at ease.
Thanks!
