Hey folks, My first post here at Webmaster World!

As you can see from the topic I am looking for a few guidelines- Please don't think I'm coming here without reading just as a quick way of feeding of your brains.

During the start of this month, I was earning a kind amount and this was very steady - until around the 16th where it had dropped 75% and I had a rediculous amount of 0.01c clicks - I heared this is due to advertisers running out of money toward the end of the month?

I have been browsing the forum and I have come accross so many different tips/tricks of miximizing your google adsense income, The two that really stood out to me were:

1. Utilise your ads - make sure you have filled your quota of 3 ad units, 3 link units etc

2. Use as LITTLE ads as possible, you will get more $cpc and it will be more contextual

as you can see they are both complete opposites, I would like to know any tips & tricks you have to make the most out of a site, so far I'm getting 0.01$ per click and the odd $1.00 which is making my profits at the moment - i just have to hope someone is interested in joining alcoholics annonymous ( this has nothing to do with my site but the ads are well payed so I drop it in there sometime, as in a news post - I have just joined AA- only joking then continue with the news, lol )

I also use adsense for search, where I will get around 800 searches with 0 clicks - is this normal?

Well my fingers are playing up now, ill add somre more later :) thanks for any help fellas!

Bresso, you lost me with the whole AA thing.

Anyway, I can tell you this...I've found no difference in how many or little ad units I place. Most of my clicks are from one ad unit and after removing the other ad units my income has remained the same.

Now, let me also say the site is pretty niche. Unfortunately, not a high paying one. So, depending on the topic of your site your mileage may vary.

the AA thing is just a little somthing i put in a news post, to make the google ads pick up the words "alcoholics anonamoys" as they are VERY high paying keywords :p

I've been thinking of taking a few ad units off as a test, however they are are neatly placed and look very nice but after adding more link units (i had none before) the CPC for my ad units has gone dramatically low.

Am i right with the 'advertisers don't have the money to spend towards the end of the month" statement?

Also my eCPM is $0.58 - I take it that's very, very low? :(

I'd suggest you not "drop" this or that phrase in to trigger ads for a subject that is off track from your site's real theme. Its unfair to the advertisers, and your best way up in the earnings climb is to be 100% open, ethical and honest in what you offer to the market.

Stay on your intended theme and build a better site tomorrow than you had today.

Study and learn the best use of AS section tags. You probably will have to experiment at first with these.

I wouldn't pack your pages with AS to the maximum allowable. Choose wisely the ad blocks which go best with your page layout, and use only one or two per page. Again, experiment.

Are you using channels to determine where the worst eCPM is, and where the best is?

These are just starters... good luck.

Alright ,fair comment on that, however my question is, if i do keep to 1 to 2 ad units per page, will the price per click increase? that's what i've been reading in a few posts.

Thanks

Try it for a month or so and see what happens. If revenue increases than keep it that way, if revenue drops, go back to more ads.

There is no easy way other than to experiment. Your site is unique, test it all out on your site.

"Am i right with the 'advertisers don't have the money to spend towards the end of the month" statement? "

Since you define "towards the end of the month" as "after the 16th," no, unless your niche is highly unusual. And that effect doesn't always kick in at all--yesterday and today have been two of the best days of the month for me, and I sometimes have good days even closer to the end of the month.

More likely: your drop is due to smart-pricing. Google determined that clicks from your site weren't likely to convert well, and so starting giving advertisers what amounts to a discount.

How to recover from smart pricing has been the subject of many discussions--I'm sure you can find one if you look.

Good luck!

<<I will get around 800 searches with 0 clicks - is this normal?>>

No it is not normal unless you are allowing people to search the web rather than your website. When people search the web they almost always find on a website what they want and CTR are very very low and unless you are Google with a gazillion visitors you will not make any money. Actually it is better not to offer web search on your website because people simply leave your website.

Sometimes changing the ad type may help. After i change my ad type from "image only" and "image and text" to "text only" my income increased quite a bit. You should experiment and see which ads do well in your site.

It is true that changing the ad type has an impact. When I changed my ad type from "text and image" to text only for my banner ad, my CTR increases.
