Analytics & Google Adsense not agreeing

Dramatic difference in pageviews

Adsense is showing three pageviews for every one pageview that analytics is displaying. I suspect the Adsense is correct -- it's slightly lower than my server stats, but by a reasonable amounts. Analytics is not registering things correctly.

Also, it never registers my ad campaigns, when it should.

Annoying.

AdSense impressions (not pageviews) are not the same, nor are they counted the same as pageviews in Analytics.

Analytics typically underreports traffic in my experience, sometimes as much as 30%. But an ad impression isn't the same as a pageview, so that would not likely be the same - unless you have only one ad block on your page, and even then, I'm not sure it would be the same.

I don't know what you mean by your campaign - your AdWords campaign? Do you have it hooked up properly?

I was just looking at the same issue - the difference between adsense and analytics and thought I'd do a search in case it was already discussed. ... and it appears it was.

I noticed the same 30-50% difference. I was looking at my URL channel data for page views, not ad units.

One possible explanation I can think of is that the analytics code is near the bottom of the page. The difference could be caused by 'quick bounces'. ie. when someone hits your page long enough for the ads to load and then hits the back button before analytics loads.

Another possiblity is that one of the spyware apps is blocking analytics for some reason (ie perceived privacy) but not blocking adsense.

That's an interesting theory about Google Analytics and spam/virus blocking software. I'll have to run some tests and see if any of the common ones block it.

G-Analytics still shows consistently lower traffic on my site. Yes, I'm calculating adviews/2 (because I have 2 ads on a page) and Google is currently recording significantly fewer *pageviews* in Adsense vs. Analytics. And Webalizer, which is obviously server side, shows MUCH more traffic but I don't think Webalizer carves out spiders and bots so that's probably not a relevant number.

My site tends to be used by a very net-savvy usergroup that is big on privacy and has the tech savvy to enforce their desire for privacy ... so it's a very interesting theory, to say the least.
