I know another one of those my ecpm went down posts.....but when it happens to you :-(

All of the sudden after several months yesterday my ecpm took a MAJOR DIVE. Down about $6 from where it normally is since yesterday...

Is it me or has anyone else noticed this....

One day of change is nowhere near enough to ascertain any credible theory on why ecpm has changed. Maybe if it was consistent over a period of days/weeks it could mean something. However, figures are never constant, so keep an eye out for a pattern which develops over a period, if that indeed occurs.

If my eCPM was down $6, I'd actually have to PAY Google for displaying ads. So I guess you should consider yourself lucky. ;-)

my ecpm took a MAJOR DIVE

How is your average EPC since this obviously affects eCPM if all other metrics are stable?

If your EPC is stable then did you have more than average page impressions or fewer than average clicks since these are the only two factors that can affect eCPM?

FWIW my EPC average dropped on Thursday just over 14% yet bounced back Friday and so far today.

Holidays/whatever, I know my CTR is bouncing all over the place at the moment when it is usually fairly stable and this obviously affects the eCPM however not the EPC.

YMMV!

One thing I could say, I haven't had two consecutive days with the same eCPM. I call it the AdSense Yo-Yo.

My eCPM is at around 75% during the past three days. But this happens near the end of the month almost every month. My guess is that alot of advertiser budgets have met their monthly limit.

agree. Happens every month without fail. Somewhere during the last week of the month, things slow down for me, then pick up again on the second or last day before swinging into high gear in the first 10 days of every month. Watching your figures bounce around will drive you nuts. You need to know your own pattern.

Low traffic and low ecpm on average. I attribute it to:

1) Week-end
2) End of month
3) Slow summer month

It does suck though, but not as much if I look at it as the "inescapable low of the year". There has to be one.

I dare not say it... But mines been up since mid june and still a third better than my 4 year average. I think these new advertiser referal reports, the adwords/adsense mfa banned acounts, the new ad formats (CPA etc) mean lots of changes at once. It will be a while before stability and "normality" returns. And as usual the best sites will do better and the worst will do worse. But at the moment its all up in the air.

A couple of days, even a week isn't a trend.

A couple of weeks or months, now THAT's a trend.

I dropped a couple of $$$ in one day, did I post?

It sprang back 2 days later.

Be part of the solution and not part of the signal to noise ratio problem :)

Up or down 6 is nothing if your average is 60 or more.
Up or down 6 is rather a lot if your average is 1 ir 2!

Its more useful to use fractions or percentages. If my ecpm went down by 6 then it would be down by 20 percent.
