Profitable Keywords For Ghost/Horror Sites

Profitable Keywords for Ghost & Horror Sites

I run a big true ghost stories site, and although I get around 1000 new visitors per day, I am only earning, on average, around $3-£5 per day. I have also just launched a Dracula site, so presume it will be the same story there.

How can I find PROFITABLE keywords for ghost and horror sites? I mean, I have just put up a Ghost Tours page on my site, in the hope that this will increase my earnings.

Any ideas?

Good idea: Look at other related sites that have been around a long time and are successful. It's likely that whatever they do works reasonably well.

Bad idea: Start writing ghost stories about haunted printer ink, and zombies that need to engage in debt consolidation. In other words, don't go the "keyword" route. It's an illusion to think that you'll be paid well for traffic that isn't targeted to the ads being shown.

Pages about ghost tours might work well. How about reviews of ghost-oriented movies or books that ghost-story and horror fans might buy?

It's always possible, of course, that most of your readers aren't interested in buying anything, or that the topic doesn't attract high-paying AdSense bids. Still, if you can build up enough traffic over time, high volume (even at low CTR and EPC rates) might bring you success.

Truegho, you say you have a big site, but how big is it? 10 stories? 100? 1000? Being on top in the SERPS for a good keyword is one thing, but if you have a lot of content, usually the long tail end of traffic can bring a variety of people and keywords that may help, especially if your main keyword is difficult to monetize (ex: free wallpapers, children's stories, etc.)

Sign up for Google and Yahoo news / blog alerts for ghost story related phrases; something might suggest itself from some of those.
