I understood that we are not allowed to promote sponsored results in any way, but just came across a search engine which says 'We make money by providing you with the very best sponsored search and travel services.' in its FAQ's.

Having searched some of the pages, they are just crammed with sponsored results, some of which were for one of my sites. Needless to say I have put the search engine URL in my competetive filter list.

I cannot understand Googles justification in adding AdSense adverts on such sites. I know they have agreements with companies such as AOL to provide search results, but it rather suggests that anyone can set up a search engine and place Google Ads on it. I guess money talks after all!

it's also against google's terms and conditions to put ads on a search results page. but maybe they have an agreement or something

On the point of search results pages, I wrote to Google on this point a year ago, and they said it was fine to put Google Ads on my own websites search results pages, but perhaps you meant 'external' search results pages :-)
