It's only 7:38 a.m Saturday, Google time. How can you tell how the weekend's going?

Thanks for your reply.
I wanted to know if there is a holiday / match etc.
My traffic is bit lower than usual.

Yeah, it's a bit early to determine what traffic's like for the weekend....

But, expect it to be slow. Here in the States 4th of July is on Wednesday. So, many people are going to be getting their partying done this weekend. You can probably expect the same next weekend too.

Ok, I'm off to shoot bottlerockets at the neighbors cat!

I don't need to see the final results. My traffic is going to be slow. It's always slow the weekend before the Fourth. It will be slow on the Fourth and it will be slow on the day after the Fourth. Two days after the Fourth things would normally start to pick back up again, but that's a Friday and my traffic typically slumps on Friday's as well. It'll be the 9th before I get back on an even keel.

I'm glad it gets slow sometimes. Makes it easy for me to get away...

Huge. My main site has much to do with the 4th of July. Record traffic and earnings. Unfortunately it will undoubtedly slope downward rather sharply from the 5th on. Moreover, I just today got a car repair estimate that will pretty much eat up the entire fruits of my labor during this peak season (and that's after the part that's covered by warranty).

Bleah.

Many holidays in the US are "moved" to the closest Monday for "celebration." However, July 4th is an exception - it is not moved.

I believe the "damage" to income will be split between this weekend and next weekend.

Last year was total carnage for some people, not much of a dip for others.

Last year my Friday was less good than this year. That is to say, yesterday's earnings were better than last year's Friday prior to the holiday.

Perhaps less people taking off early for a long holiday weekend in 2006(Friday through Tuesday 2006)? Because the fourth falls on a Wednesday, there may be less people taking a long holiday weekend this year (Friday through Wednesday is six days). The earnings drop for some people may be less this year than last year (I hope).

What do you think? Will your earnings sizzle or fizzle?

Are you experiencing a mild holiday slump or feeling the opening blows of a carnage?

I don't see big drops in traffic, but I see a significant decrease of eCPM.

It looks like, in my case, some advertisers paused their campaigns.

I believe the "damage" to income will be split between this weekend and next weekend.

Because of the way the calendar falls this year, many people & communities are doing their big 4th of July celebrations on Friday and Saturday, the 6th and 7th. Look for longer than usual weekends, and however you usually do during this time - it'll probably be stretched out a bit longer.

Seeing a major drop in CPM too. Obviously, advertisers have put their budgets on hold.

CPM = ok here.
Traffic = ok for a sunday

The EU/US balance is a bit off, but nothing spectacular.

Major drop in cpm across all sites, bit bigger then the last 4 years. Advertisers are getting better I think at maximizing their ROI.

Apart from my extremely strange metrics for Sunday 17th June, Saturday was my second worst day of the year for impressions and earnings since 1st January!

CTR was normal however EPC and eCPM have been abysmal for the last few days, about 20% down on last month, however, overall earnings and comparing with previous years I was expecting an overall 15% monthly reduction although the reality of the depreciating US Dollar and the year-long reduction in EPC and eCPM then my earnings are almost 50% of last year:-((

Tis a pity I cannot write such compelling and supposedly awesome content that others claim to be able to do so much better than the rest of us!

If you are talking about me rest assured mines dropped too this weekend by 25 percent or so income overall caused by both traffic and ecpm

Dont worry it will be back!

Edit reason: Knackered MS keyboard.

Oddly, and against all 'expectations', impressions, eCPM, and CTR are all thru the roof this weekend on our leading site. I'm expecting a free fall later, though. Site topic is such that I would expect most of my visitors to be out engaging in the site's topic rather than surfing the web...

Haven't you been exposed to the received wisdom that crappy content stimulates oodles of AdSense clicks just to get away to something more refreshing and enlightening?

No everyone knows that this just gives crappy conversion, therefore more smartpricing, advertisers switching off content, etc. People should click only because they choose to because the ad interests them.

Try writing information that helps people make purchasing decisions. Where to buy, when to buy, what to buy, how to save money, where to find quality etc. That will ensure that the audience you attract is the kind of readership which is already in a mood to purchase. Your conversions will go up as a result and your payouts will improve.

Doh! Is a lack of sense of humour a pre-qualification here?

I hope you realize that my tongue was stuck very far into my cheek when I made my previous comment.

One thing I might add, however, is that on sales pages or pre-sales pages, it's not a good idea, IMO, to include AdSense. I want nothing to distract a motivated shopper from their burning desire to purchase.
