First thing you need to do, is report it to Google. Let them know that you see this happening and that it's beyond your control.

Second, try to figure out who the culprit is and go from there.

I heard that people report this and get banned.

I agree that you should report it to adsense-support@google.com. If it's a single culprit not associated with your account, you won't get banned.

If your logs indicate anything suspicious, block the IPs.

I had some concerns about a click attack a while back - I immediately notified adsense of my concerns. They sent a pleasant email thanking my for notifying them, and reassuring me that they had measures in place to monitor invalid clicks. I saw no long term damage/effect. I assume - that if they had tracked the invalid clicks - they filtered them.

Definately email them asap.

I had the same experience. I noticed a click attack (more clicks in an hour than I get in a couple of days), e-mailed Google right away, and they responded with a thanks and they were monitoring the situation.

What I thought was interesting is that those clicks never accumulated any income associated with them. That made me think there was an AdSense algorithm that detected those clicks and immediately discounted them.

My Adsense for Search click through rate jumped over the last 4 days from about 2% to 20%. Revenue jumped by a factor of 15. I notified Google yesterday and got an email stating that they are monitoring the situation. The tone of the email almost said "don't worry about it". Here's a quote.

Please note that there's no need to alert us of all instances of invalid activity, so we ask that you use your best judgment when reporting unusual activity on your site.

I'm guessing I don't need to do anything more. Can anyone confirm this from their experience?
