Color Blending - Link Unit

Prior to some recent changes, I published a 468x60 across the upper right of all site pages and a 160 x 600 along the left side of all pages. Both ads had a different backgrond color than the rest of the page.

CRT was running 3.06 and eCPM was running $3.90

Recently, I changed the background colors in both ads to match the rest of the page and also added a 728 x 15 Link Unit directly below the site's main horizontal link bar.

CTR is now 5.11 and eCPM is now $5.85

Earnings have almost doubled.

I do have a question about the 468x60 banner at the top of the page. I am considering getting rid of it as well as another smaller non-google banner ad next to it and replace them both with a 728x90 Leaderboard. Both are not performing well.

Recommedations are appreciated.

My experience - and the general consensus - is that the 728x90 leaderboard performs better than the 468x60 banner.

The 468x60 has been recognized as a very common ad size by surfers, and might be a victim of that "ad blindness" concept.

The 728x90 performs better, but the large square sizes 300x250 and 336x280 perform the best of the other sizes.

The squares might be more difficult to place nicely on a page, but I usually pair up one Adsense-square with a Chitika-square ad beside it to make things look "even." (Chitika ads are compatible with Adsense)

Thanks guys. You have confirmed my feelings. A leaderboard it shall be.
