I've just noticed this, and can't find any mention of it happening before (if it has, can someone point me to the right thread/s):

I've just spotted an ad, in Adsense, for Google maps. This is obviously replacing an ad that a publisher has bid for. If a user clicks on this ad for Google maps, does the publisher (me) receive anything? Is this a way for G to get free advertising/drive up the bid-price for ads?

Yes, you will receive revenue if someone clicks a Google ad.

They have been displaying their own ads for a very long time now.

and the fact their ads were shown on the site means their ads won a competition

Have you tried adding the URL under "Competitive ad filter"? :D

I used to meet this problem.

But I find I still get the money from Adsense even though the Ads is About Google
