Do they pay?

I see Google's own ads appear on one of our sites, even when there's inventory of ads available. Specifically Google AdWords and GoogleBase ads. Does Google pay? If yes, how can I estimate how much? If no, can these be blocked?

Not sure whether this topic has come up before, if yes, can you please post a link here?
