Adsense Logging Scripts

Are they necessary?

Looking at posts such as [webmasterworld.com...] makes me wonder if it isn't a bad idea to use some sort of Adsense logging scripts.

Any opinions on this either way?

I've been thinking the same thing lately after reading that thread. I'm using an Adsence tracker simply out of curiosity which ads are shown and which get clicked. It wouldn't be able to protect against theft though since most of it is php that is run and stripped from the source before the page is served, so if someone takes the ad code, or even the entire page, the stolen content won't show up in the ad monitor stats. Besides, if a person just took the Adsence code itself, any tracker code would likely be removed.

I've yet to find a way to be able to protect or monitor this sort of thing. Honestly, I'm doubtful it could really be done with any accuracy since, like I said, it'd have to be client side code and not be stripped out by the "borrower".

This whole problem of course could be solved if Google showed us a list of sites our Ad code is showing on. But that and domain white-listing have been requested for some time and no response from G.

I wonder why they just do not come out and respond one way or another. The idea of a whitelist is a useful one which could improve the integrity of the whole system.

I use adlogger, but main purpose is the clickfraud protection that is built in.
