From AdSense TOS:

Competitive Ads and Services
We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services. If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted Google ads, this would include all other contextually-targeted ads or links on the same page as Google ads. This would also include ads throughout the site that mimic Google ads or otherwise appear to be associated with Google on your site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads do not mimic Google ads. If you have elected to receive Google search services, this would include other search services on the same site and non-Google query-targeted ads. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.

I want to test some new stuff. What precisely is a site here? Is it a domain name? Is it my entire sphere of interlinked domain names? Is it everything on my hosting account, IP number, everything I own? What if it is a different spelling/conceptualization of a domain that I run regular AdSense stuff on.
Can everything I do be considered my "site".
How far does the AdSense TOS reach?

In general I would say it's a problem that if creativity is beeing limited and restrained by fear of beeing banned or other trouble with Google. It's intimidating really.

"Site" is generally understood to mean a specific domain (including its subdomains), but if you're really worried about being banned for experimenting, why not ask for a clarification from AdSense Support?

In cases where a publisher gets into trouble for violating the AdSense terms & conditions or program policies, "I read it on a forum" isn't likely to be an acceptable excuse. :-)
