Sudden drop in AdSense revenue recently?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi everyone.

We have a technology site, does some reasonable impressions and earns a good amount from AdSense. Seems those ads are quite valuable. Anyway, for the last month and a half, all has been going well, with some steady growth.

As of Tue 20th July however, our revenue has approximately halved. This is a marked change, and one that is not expected. No changes have been made to the site - apart from daily new content that we have been adding since the site opened over 12 months ago.

Has anyone else experienced a drop like this, in a similar vertical, or other?

We are not aware of any service changes etc...

Same here...but these types of fluctuations are quite common.

I run a technology related site as well and my revenues have dropped by 15% this week. The drop is due to less than normal CPC eventhough CTR and Impressions are steady. I think its just cyclical as its summer vacation time and also the advertisers may have depleted their budgets. Hoping it will start growing from September.

freedata,

Me too. I have similar site... but mine focuses on PC/Mac peripherals.

CPC drops by 25%, but I kinda figured out a new way to boost CTR by blending in ads so the overall revenue end up not as bad as I thought.

...time of year.. people on vacation... don't panic... things should be back to normal when the college/school kids are back clicking on free ipod ads ;)

July worst month ever. In fact my *parked domains* are making more CPM than Adsense on a PR6 page with 1000 uniques a day.

not amusing.

After a big drop last week earnings have now been highest ever since a couple of days. Page views and CTR are normal but CPM/EPC are up. I consider it an unpredictable jojo.

Welcome to reality, how may I help you?! :( Some of us first started seeing our earnings crash MONTHS ago, like early this year!

Hoping this is seasonal.

I was doing much better this month (like March figures) up until Thursday the 22nd. And Friday. And so far Saturday. Down up to 57% over the first half of the week AND the rest of July. Both CTR & EPC affected, so I think Google has been playing around with their matching again.

My CPM started falling too. It's now around half of what it was before since July 21. And I have multiple pages on different topics, so I don't think it's seasonal. My CTR has fallen too.

On the bright side, those who are experiencing "seasonal drops" and who have also worked overtime to re-strategize their ad-position placements and on/off-page optimization could see some nice results later when things pick up.

I've made 73 cents in the last 3 days with AdSense.

This is turning out to be my best adsense month ever.

July has been my best month ever, it picked up for me in the last two weeks. I expect to have a HUGE aug month.

This is by far my best month yet.

My EPC has risen 22% over last month. My traffic is similar to last month, but the rise in EPC has already put me more than 25% over last month revenues with a week to go in the month.

I am very pleased with Adsense payouts and revenues this month.

AdSense for me was great until 1 April when revenue dropped over 50%. Has been *relatively* stable since.

I run a site on a construction/home improvement topic. Adsense revenue per click, which is usually incredibly predictable, is double its normal rate for yesterday and today. Tech. down, home improvement up? Could they be adjusting the payout based on topic?

For July we are up 40% of revenues from last month but throughout last week we adjusted and changed the ad-size and colors to force the mediabot for a visit.

It has been a very good month so far and I have that strong feeling, August will be even better.

Google was terribly down in the beginning of July but now it has seemed to pick up very well again.

Adsense EPC has dropped around 50% for my sites also (alternative health and parenthood types of sites). This just happened a few days ago.

I am also facing the same problem. My CPM came down by 50% for in past two days.

I know this is a lot to ask. But, please can someone who makes over $20K per month from non-seasonal AdSence chime in and tell us if revenues are really down:)

I'm surprised that for the first time since July/2003 my Google AdSense account is generating as much (or is it as little?) as my TF account. Believe it or not, six months ago it was something like five times more...

Someone making that type of money in Adsense is unlikely to admit it here.

We don't. But Adsense has been holding up well this month. There are regular threads of sharp EPC drops, sharp CTR drops etc but many of these can be explained by seasonal factors, big advertisers taking an ad break, big ad campaigns by one of your main advertisers coming to an end etc.

In almost every thread that some people complained of falling earnings others have piped in to say they are doing very well, thank you. And, as we don't know how big these sites are in terms of page views or Adsense earnings we can't draw any conclusions about the Adsense program from their anecdotal reports of earnings drops/increases - a point percentages touched on.

There have been one or two major drops pretty much across the board ...like on April 1st this year, October 14th last year (introduction of broad matching) etc. But even these did not affect everybody. Some reported improved earnings after those "milestone" dates.

Yesterday and today, are the first time this month my CPC droped by about 40%. Can't wait for channel data to update so I can investigate further.

Ours was down by 50% this week. I noticed that one advertiser’s ads wasn’t present on our busiest pages, but were present on lesser-visited pages. Those ads are now back, and I’ll bet it recovers. So I don’t know. Maybe (G) is fishing for ppl trying to manipulate pages to increase their money?

Over the past month we've seen a 30-50% drop in our CPM. We started using multiple color ads and that's helped, but this is a huge hit considering we do a very large amount monthly with adsense. I'm hopping it's seasonal too. An interesting point also, we tried pulling back adsense's inventory on our leaderboard spot, cutting it in half, and the overal CPM dropped too! It was very suprising, we put it back giving it about 90% and the CPM went back up... anyone able to offer an explanation?
