Google Earning Acting Weird

3 clicks = 1cent?

For the past few days one of my websites has been generating 10-15 cents per click. Today google adsense is showing only 1 cent for 3 clicks. How does that work? Are those considered invalid clicks?

There are a number of threads that touch on this very topic. Pretty much all of them say the same thing: Ignore today's stats- they are not real time and are often hours behind. Other threads suggest a few other issues as well.

Earnings from any individual click can vary from less than a cent to tens of dollars (these may be rare).

For small sample sizes, the effect of one click that is a lone way from your average may be enormous.

I now average around 2000 clicks a day, but still see a spread of plus or minus 30% around my average value. When my traffic was much lower, the daily values ranged from 30% to 400% of my average.

Pengi, did you mean 40%?

dailypress, those could also be clicks on CPM ads, which are payed per 1000 impressions rather than per click.

No I meant 400%

For my first month my traffic was very low and the daily average earnings per click varied dramatically from day to day.

My average EPC for month 1 was 16x
The EPC for month 1 day 13 was 7x and the EPC for month 1 day 3 was 64x.

Now my average EPC is 13x but I see daily variations from 11x to 18x

And of course those first coulple of clicks of the day can sometimes generate ridiculous figures.

Some of these lower click values may be because google is having some trouble serving ads to us:

Less advertiser may mean less competition for bids thus lower epc.. i'm definitely seeing it.

I share the same opinion as sailorjwd.

I can see in my niche less advertisers and value of click is in slow, but permanent decline.

At the same time last year, valu of the clicks on my site was 25% higher.

I can only hope things will pick up...

I have seen loads of ups and downs in the last couple of years. I guess pro-rata I'm 15% down on this time last year, but I am far from sure this is a real trend.

My targeting is off a little.
