Last sunday EPC/CPM dropped 50% from fairly steady levels whole month of Dec. Values stayed at that level for the week.

Now, this sunday (10 hours in), EPC/CPM up 100%.

Pages that were getting single-digit cpms now have double digit values. CTR up nicely contributing to CPM rise.

It is nice to know that G has the ability to show decent ads with more reasonable EPCs on my pages.

Why did this happen today? Do my pages suk less today?
Did a bunch of advertisers get drunk last night and up their bids?

Anyone else seeing an odd rise in stats?

Ups and down are common with Google search and Adsense. I had same problem in Nov-06.

What's your sample size, roughly speaking?

I've got a sample size in the tens of thousands, and it isn't uncommon for eCPM to vary by 25 or 30 percent from day to day within a given month.

My sample size is 10% of what I would like it to be.

EFV, I've been doing adsense for 3 year now.

For two years I've seen gradual decrease in overall earnings on a steady basis.

The 50% cut starting last sunday was absolutely out of the ordinary. Todays values are back to recent month normality.

60% of the increase today is due to better targeting resulting in better CTR and the rest is simply higher EPC on pages that had lower EPC.

sailorjwd, we have a fairly large network of established sites and have been with adsense since the start and have seen a massive amount of volatile earnings compared to 3.5 year moving trends.

This all started last month and continues into Jan. for us. We have millions of visits a month on these sites so it is a very large sample size. One day we see record highs followed by 2 days of record lows with no reason and no changes in traffic levels or sources. You are not alone.

congrats sailor on the rise in income, lets hope that it averages out to be higher than what you were getting.
