Adsense for Search vs. Content

Yesterday as an example my stats looked something like this:

Content: 400 clicks, $90 earnings
Search: 600 searches, 150 clicks, $10 earnings

This is very typical of my content vs. search performance.

The content ads are a 728 x 90 strip at the top of the page, the search box is at the bottom of each page.

Does everyone agree that the smartest thing to do from an earnings point of view is to drop the search box from my site? The worst case is that I will lose $10 a day, the best case is that half of those searchers will click on an ad instead, which will almost double my earnings.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I also thought about replacing the search box with another set of ads, but I'm a bit worried about rocking the boat.

I'm going to try it and see, unless anyone warns me otherwise?

I am basing this purely on opionion, but I would have thought that people are using the search box because they want to find something else, and so they would not necessarily be tempted to click on the ad at the top, or an ad replacing the search box.

I dunno. Some months Search income actually outstrips the Ad income for me.

why not put some channels on it, and run a few test pages without the search block?

Do yahoO! and MSN run similar programmes? I'm investigating the options for a client and the only stuff I find on these two doesn't indicate any sort of way to earn cash
