I do see a few MFA's in my sector. also a few MFA's do advertise on my site. This leads me to believe that there is sufficient advertiser money in my domain.
How do I attract them to my site?
Does smart pricing also apply for established authority sites?
Or do advertisers in my sector bid low?
unless, of course, you have already experimented with colors and for some strange reason the black adds are working for you!

You mean your site is a MFA site, and not getting advertisers? There's your answer.
Provide something people want, and the advertisers will follow.

What the OP is saying is that MFA 's appear on his site as advertisers. He does not claim to be a MFA.. His is a chip design site.
Well the normal suggestions would be to filter MFA's.
Try for more international traffic.
( I see very poorly targetted ads, maybe because my country does not have good advertisers in this niche)
Use fewer ad blocks etc etc .
My thoughts.
------------
Over the past few days I have been going through a few other sites in my sector and analysing the ads on them. These ads are the same as the ads on my pages. Also doing a google search for my sector related keywords returned very few ads in the sidebar, and most are the same as what appears on my page.
Looking at the vendors who will target my visitors, I see just a handful who can actually sell them something. And these vendors depend on Direct face to face interaction for their sales.
So may be the advertiser money is really small.
In conclusion I think google is putting the best possible ads on my pages. Bue due to the small numbere of advertisers maybe there is no money to be made here.
However, if your pages have a narrow focus then try branching your content off of the main subject.
Write some articles about aspects of the topic, uses, techniques, trends, history, comparisons, use this, don't use they, when, where, and why... think think think!
Also, if you haven't already, setup channels to see if some of your pages have better EPC than others.. Then do so any if some have better epc then try to analyze why. Perhaps a slight twist on the subject?... go from there and expand, extrapolate.

GP.
