Any colour you like?

Various postings have asked about what is allowed for setting up Adsense colours and blending ads. Some responses have suggested it is OK so long as you select one of Google's colour schemes.

My understanding of the Adsense set up page is that I am not limited to selected one of the pre-set palettes - I can creat my own using the options they provide.

I can define colours to be used for each of: border, title, background, text & URL.

I can specify each colour with using 6 hexadecimal digits.

If I know the could or my site background and site text in hex, I can set my adsense colour scheme to match.

If you only use what is provided by Adsense you should end up with a result that is within the TOS - but this still allows a wide choise of colours.

Is it ok to type in any hex code you want or not!

I am a little confused. Has it not always been within the TOS to blend ads and to enter alternate hex not included in the pre-set palettes.

I am sure that this was recently discussed here. And the consensus was that if you were able to produce the code in adsense - and providing that you did not try to hide any of the text by using same text colour as background colour - or very similar - then it was OK. Adsense actively encourage people to blend ads. So providing you are not doing anything to actively encourage clicks, or to "blend-out" bits you don't want visible, I believe it is OK. Perhaps the ASA would like to clarify this?

My understanding is that you can use any colours you like. Just so long as you use the Google adsense generator to create the code, and then do not edit the generated code.

There we go again.. using the adsense generator.

I use a background color: F2F1FE

Which is similar to the blue bar at the bottom of this page. I have to type it in. I guess that is 'using the generator' - not really, since I'm typing it in.

But if G provides a box for you to enter your 6 hex characters then is has to be OK - any colour so long as you can define it with 6 hex characters.

"Choose from one of our pre-designed color palettes, or create your own palette."

What's hard to understand about this? Type in whatever values you want. If you try to hide any of the text by making it the same color as the background, Google will override your choice anyway.

I don't find it hard - but we do seem to get lots of questions here asking if it's OK to use such and such ...

i usually just plug in the color directly in the code without using the generator.. no problems here
