sorry newbie question again, until now I've been setting up for myself daily target ( hehe as low as $3 ) but today I read in another thread that a better target is eCPM of, suggested, $10.

Well to reach an earning target all I have to do is try to get more traffic to my site and add good content but what can i do to maximize my eCPM (which is actually about $5 on average)

thanks

What constitutes a "good" eCPM depends upon your site and its topic. Some subjects bring much higher eCPM's than others.

'Twas I who wrote that:-))

hyperkik is totally correct:

What constitutes a "good" eCPM depends upon your site and its topic. Some subjects bring much higher eCPM's than others.

eCPM's do not extrapolate equally and exponentially e.g. let's say I earn an eCPM of $10 and have 10,000 Google Page Impressions per day, would I earn the same for 100,000 Google Page Impressions per day?

No I most probably would not, although I may know this soon, simply because one's become mainstream fodder and one has become "a source of information/&/fun", remember this, the users do not give a damn about your site, all they want is the latest piece of gossipy garbage!

If your site isn't there next week, they'll move on...!

Accept and understand that soap opera/sports/etc garbage is a waste of space then you'll realise just how much relevant, unique, quality information will withstand the vagaries of the AdSense algo.

For everyone who has understood what I have written: Construct a site with accurate, factual information that will stand the test of time since people will always be looking for that .

99% of popular-theme sites generally have low earnings or short life spans.

YMMV...the first time I've found a use for it...YMMV...and again?

Thank you for both of your replies but then again OptiRex, you are talking about a $10 per day eCPM for 10k page impressions per day. I don't have 1/2 of that with 2k impressions per day. and you said in the other post to aim for traffic and a higher eCPM, I am starting to understand how to drive traffic, but what can I do regarding eCPM?
thanks again

eCPM depends on many factors, mainly your site's topic. For example if it's an entertainment site, you can expect to get 1/10th of what a site about cancer would. I have around 3$ eCPM on my entertainment site, and it's excellent for my category.

The higher CTR your site has, the higher eCPM. Naturally with more clicks per 1000 your earnings per 1000 will increase.

Quality of traffic is a big factor. If people click your ads, but do not generate conversions to advertisers, google's feared Smart Pricing algorithm will reduce the click price on your site. It does work both ways though.

I wouldn't focus on getting eCPM up, instead focus on getting higher CTR (means higher eCPM), quality traffic and content.

Three ways of increasing eCPM:

1) Put your ads in the hot spots suggested by Google
[google.com ]

2) Find the optimal number of ad units per page, in most cases it is fewer than the maximum of three ad units, but it varies from topic to topic, page to page, phases of the moon ;)

3) Avoid getting Smart Priced. Some feel that fooling users into clicking ads by making them appear to be navigation links is one way of getting SPed.

I tried all 3 of the above methods, and it seems to work for a while, then smart-pricing will kick in again.

I move things around and add different URLs to the filter, and it works for a few days, and then back to smart-pricing again.

The eCPM just fluctuates too much from week to week. It can be good for a while, then for some unknown reason, it cuts right in half!

Only have ads on the "logical exit" or "most exited" pages on your site
