I hope Google will make this a regular feature.

I've been thinking of placing thumbnail images right next to my Adsense ads to increase ctr as others have noted.

I guess I dont have to anymore, I think Google will do it already.

This is a new campaign that Google started a few weeks ago. You may also see images in 120x600 and 160x600 as well.

As long as the images are closely related to the ad's, this is sounds like a cool feature.

Are we allowed to place images next to ads? I noticed a site with a Yahoo ads, four rows inside a square. The sitemaster has four images placed to the side of the ads that attracted my attention. Would Google allow that?

That's under discussion in this thread [webmasterworld.com].

I just saw an AdSense ad on my site with an image in it. The problem was, the image (imho) had little to do with the ad.

I didn't see any yet. But it looks like Google may categorize and display keyword related images soon or later. That would be cool.

I'm see a 110 x 90 image at the top of my skyscraper ads - with:
More Sponsored Links >>
in text below it. I daren't click it (!), so I'm not sure if it's an advertiser, or if it's Google trying to link to a 'related searches' page.

Any ideas?
