Websearch and frames

The search template logo/link customisation doesn't really work for my site, so I thought I'd have a go at using frames - a common site header in a top frame with a search frame below.

Only it doesn't work. Clicking on a link in the search result opens the site within my frames. I would have thought 'target="_blank"' would be the default for clicks on search results/ads. Even nicer would be the option to specify the target frame.

Sigh.
