You need to have FTP access to the templates, then you insert the script into the templates.

Hi Jenstar:

Thank you for the quick response :) I do have ftp access to the templates.. would you know which files to edit? Or rather, is there a link you can point me to so that I can RTFM :)

Thanks

Assuming you're using the default subSilver, you're looking at editing either overall_header.tpl or overall_footer.tpl if you want them appearing at the top or bottom of each page. Both these files will be found in your PHPBB folder/templates/subSilver.

No, doing this will break the TOS. It will show on form submit pages, ie pages after signup. You need to enable it for the forum view, index and topic view templates individually ( 3 templates )

eaden is right, you cannot add them to the header or footer, as it would be in violation, since ads would then appear on registration pages and private pages (ie. private messages).

Yeah, you're right. Sorry about that. I had thought that since it was now allowed to be displayed on Search result pages, that it would be OK, but I'd forgotten about the forms.

I had the Adsense ads in overall_header.tpl but replaced them following Eaden's advise. I edited only viewtopic_body.tpl (instead of also index_body.tpl and viewforum_body.tpl).

I like it better when ads only appear on actual topics. On the message list or on the index page ads will be badly targeted because there is too much different and irrelevent info.

I was very surprised to see ad targetting get better almost directly. I don't have any stats to prove this yet, but I have a strong feeling that placing the adsense code in viewtopic_body.tpl results in much better targetting than placing it in overall_header.tpl. Wonderful.

that's what I did too. Only added the ad to viewtopicbody.tpl.. And the ads are already
showing up! Now only if I can get more traffic
to my site :)

CTR has gone up about 200% since I placed the ads this way....
