I was thinking about throwing back on some old banners on my site along with my adsense banners, My question is will it decrease my click through rate? Has any one else given this a shot yet?

We run banners on top and skyscrapers on both sides of our sites -- and Adsense as rectangle. Our CTR is quite good and it is not affected by banner ads. Banner ads anyway in our site get a measly .2% CTR, so that's nothing to worry about.

I don't think our Adsense CTR goes down even if we get to run a high CTR banner. We had a banner advertiser where CTR was about 2-3% whose 3 month campaign ended recently. When the campaign started, our Adsense CTR was pretty steady. When it ended, our Adsense CTR did not skyrocket if really there is a substitution going on.

For all it's worth, we'd rather make sure that we do not put everything in the Adsense basket

Use this simulator [exe.adam.ne.jp] to browse what kind of ad will be supplied to your (or others) web site.
Then optimize your contents to preferable ads.
