How "healthy" can a CTR get?

It has been discussed that a healthy/standard CTR would be 1%. After content integration, I am getting an almost double digit CTR on one of my sites.

It seems that with the right integration, color scheme, content and very well targeted traffic, an almost double digit average CTR is possible.

Is a high x.xx% or a low xx.xx% likely to trigger a manual review from Google? Is such a CTR considered to be too high to be obtained through legit ways?

from everything I know about it, I'm guessing the answer is no, there's no "bad" CTR.

if you're getting a lot hits, and the CTR is relatively consistant (no huge spikes) I don't think google is going to pull the plug or even review you.. unless it's something really absurd, like 50% or something, which probably WOULD have to be the result of some sort of breaking of the TOS.

I am sure if you have a high traffic site and have an unusually high CTR that Google may send one of their reps to check out your site.

However, if you aren't violating TOS, you shouldn't have any worries.

I agree with PD, it may cause a human at Google to review the site, but it of itself will not cause you to have any problems. After all, a valid high CTR is to Googles advantage also.

I disagree that having TOO high a CTR isn't possible.

Anything over 100% for an extended period is likely to get your account canceled. ;)

Not that that's a problem any of us are likely to have anytime soon.... :)

Just as an example - I am developing a new site, and had a day with a 75% CTR - 3 clicks with only 4 impressions. The next two days zero clicks with 15 - 20 impressions.

I am sure that as real traffic starts hitting the site - the CTR average level out to a "normal" ratio.

Sites with minimal traffic will always have wildly fluctuating CTRs because the sample set is too low.

During the last four days, my CTR has suddenly tripled but no change in earnings. This is due to a change from high paying but a slightly off-targeted to low paying but highly targeted ads on the index page. Note that the previous CTR on the site is already above the average based on my observation from this forum.
