Are they worth keeping, or are they just a waste of time?
I suspect they are appearing because the word 'jobs' appears on some of my pages. But this is a very specific industry, so I'm wondering whether they are just going to annoy my regular visitors.
But perhaps they are useful to some of my visitors? Some of them are students and need all the $$$ they can get. Do these ads pay well?
if you have any interest in the financial welfare of students, struggling mothers or the average naive surfer you'll want to block these ads so they don't get scammed.

If an untrained/unskilled person could earn decent money from home doing one of those jobs, then a real company would set up and start paying people a fixed rate to do the job and keep all the profits.
Ban them from your site and do your naive visitors a big favor!
For example there are a couple which provide "live customer service". The individuals are at home, and get paid per hour $8 to $15. These vendors range from text based chats to complex VoIP solutions.
Remote receptionists are also not a scam.
There are some "work-at-home" companies that are not scam or pyramid schemes.
Those places rarely post jobs saying
"Work at home and earn big $$$. Great for housewives, students, etc."
They post their jobs in more appropiate places and may not even advertise the fact that they are work at home until they feel they have a qualified candidate.
Just go to any college campus and you will see tons of posters with those bad types of jobs. They say you can make thousands of $$ at home in only a few hours per week. Once you call you find out they want you to sell vitamins, kitchen knives, or some other household good.
