So just what effect has the RODEO maintenance done to your earnings?

Bizarre after effects of May 13th maintenance...

I vote for calling this one Rodeo

Me? I'll quote from earlier today:

I am seeing totally extreme CTR and eCPM swings from one day to the next that I have never seen before.

Today, Tuesday, compared to Monday my CTR is up 60% and my eCPM up by 105%!

My site in 3 years has never varied +/-20% from its average CTR and eCPM.

IF, yeah if, today continues in the same vein I shall easily have my best-ever day since my earnings are already looking as they normally do 3-4 hours ahead.

Therefore what will tomorrow bring, further new low records?

This is bizarre, what are they doing?

As a continuation from the above, my earnings after 12 hours have already exceeded my daily average, my CTR and eCPM are still running at never before seen levels and I...am totally confused!

I've been busy checking my logs to see if there seems to be anything unusual, but no, all looks completely "normal".

I love the earnings however just what is going to be the fallout from this?

Who else has seen similar patterns?

Extremely high or low levels never experienced before?

EPC down by 300%

Presumably this means you are paying Adsense?

Do you mean down by 33.33%, 1/3rd?

I mean the epc is down to 1/3 of what it was.

Ok, so you are down 2/3 or 66%.

Looking at my stats 7 hours into this new AdSense day and all is now "normal" for me.

Overall earnings and EPC at the usual level for this time of day and both CTR and eCPM slightly above average however completely "normal" for a Wednesday afternoon.

I reckon the next 9 hours will be the telltale signs for me.

Anyone else's stats stabilising yet?

Are the majority of you guys paying for visitors (Adwords)?

If so, I wonder if it is adwords that has the problem?

Not me. I have a small AdWords campaign however it's nothing to do with my AdSense earnings.

Hmmm...don't think so if you do student stuff as previously posted.

All stats still holding "normal" Captain, steady as she goes...does this mean the next update may be called "Iceberg" or "Titanic" if loads of us sink without hardly a trace?

What I don't understand is the shifts in CTR. Are people really clicking more or is it something about how they are calculating them.

Does anyone know what might affect my CPM?

My CTR, number of visitors per day, advertising source, advertisers and adverts, key words, pages, code, rank etc are all the same, nothing has changed, Ive just had a huge decrease in CPM by 2/3 today for no appreant reason.

From what Ive read, we've all experienced ups and downs by a few %, but 2/3(66% or more) is huge!

Will it come back?

Really bad here too. cpm and epc are down 2/3. Things are picking up today but still not in my normal fluctuations. I hope things will get back to normal this weekend.

Yummy - has this happend just today? Has it happend before to anyone?

There's only 1 thing I can think of that might have caused it which is to do with another website we run which we changed the index page about 2 days ago. Ive just seen that Google has indexed it. It shares the same adsense account. Im HOPING its that. Ive now changed it back but need to wait for Google to refresh...

If it is THAT, then we can perhaps summise that all websites that use the same adsense account may have an impact with your stats on 1 single website. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes. SmartPricing works on an account-wide basis.

Thanks Content_Ed.

When did SmartPricing start, is there a chance it would have only just hit my account today or has it been in place for longer than 6 weeks?
Im trying to see if its the new smartpricing taking affect or the other domain.

pcooklin, Smart Pricing has been in place since the spring of 2004. I forget exactly when it was set up.

The Smart Pricing "discount" for your account is adjusted on a weekly basis--some people have actually been able to figure out which day it happens, or so they think.

Many things affect what you are making per click, though. Smart Pricing is just one factor.

Hunderdown - thanks for the post, it makes more sense.

So, according to the weekly smart pricing, if I put back the domains as they were before, by next wednesday my cpm should be back to normal, in theory. Is that correct.

...further to that, I know its my CPC which has hit the floor which of course affects my CPM, all other stats are the same.

Nope, it depends if the algo evaluates whether your site provides value for your visitors. It may go even lower, then again...

My post yesterday

""" My CTR is up over 60% of average along with earnings and the eCPM is up nearly 150%

I have never seen this, but I am pretty new and It is sort of almost worrisome. """

Today my eCPM isn't 50% of my average for the last month but CTR is back to near normal.

This is a Rodeo!

Interesting, it sounds as though it is still settling across some centres.

I've been about 12 hours now with everything looking completely "normal". I'm exactly where I expect to be with Page Impressions, Clicks, CTR, eCPM and Earnings for a typical Wednesday and they all tie-up with my own logs.

This is when I'm happy with my Google marriage, we both agree!

OK, so if it depends on the complex algo', then how come my cpm and cpc was up last yesturday/last week and 6 weeks prior to that, why the sudden drop, surely the advertisers are getting the same results from the same traffic from my site, whats changed?

Do you mean its taken 6 weeks for Google to work this out and have only just reduced my cost per click rate accordingly?

Can anyone list things I should check or can check?

TIA

Gotta saw that I feel the same, good one.

Well, I hope it levels out in the next day. I don't want to work on changing pages around right now to see if it helps or whatever. Got new content to write!

more info for you. I pay for around 20,000 visitors per day, surely it wouldnt take 6 weeks @ 20,000 to work out the algo' for my website?
