How Long Does it Take to Finish an AdSense Website?

One of my sites took me 2 days to "finish", meaning it was good enough (IMHO) to show it to the world.
Since it went online I spend months to upgrade it.

I think the point is you never 'finish' a site. You simply get to a stage when you're ready to show it to the world. Then constantly update it.

Different site take different lengths of time. My travel website from start to putting it online will prob take 3 months. But thats because I want a lot of content before I put it online.

I do the same as humble. I get up a wire frame, all the pertinents try to get SE coming to visit and then I move to massaging it into a full featured site.

I'm saying this because I'd set myself a deadline to finish and sign up for adsense by end of last month. Unfortunately it didn't happen that way. So I'd like to know whether you started with afew pages and added as you went along or you got everything on the site first before you signed up?

Get a minimum of one(!) relevant page uploaded, yes, I'm serious, then start adding fresh content all the time until you're satisfied there is enough information for that site, don't wait until you feel you're finished because one very rarely will...

So long as you don't have any "under construction" or "content t/k" pages, or any dead-end links, you should launch.

I started my site ten years ago with five pages. Now it has over 200.

As long as you have a good sampling of what the site will be and no underconstruction or links that go nowhere you are ready for adsense. You don't have to have a big site for adsense. Many small sites have adsense on them.

My hubby is putting one together right now and our goal is to have 4 topics somewhat developed with a few pages on each. That's just a small fraction of what the site will be. But enough to launch.

in some ways, blogs are easier to start than sites, for adsense.

Blogs come with navigation etc already- so you can just start posting.

And doing blog posts seems less intimidating than creating a new webapge to many.

Say if I am doing a site on cars and list doors, windows, tires etc, then if i have no content for right now under tires leave that totaly off of the index page? instead of having a link to the tire area & no content or a "under construction" page?

i continuously add new and unique content to my sites. the oldest one that i have that has adsense on it was started in 2000. have been adding ever since. don't think i will ever be "finished"

I've been working for 17 months on a site that isn't live yet. But that's an exception to the rule, since it's a very complicated database-driven site. The articles system alone is more robust than those on many sites, and it took just a few days of those 17 months. (There is an old, live version of the site, which is making money with AdSense and hasn't been updated while I work on the new one.)

It will be live soon... I can't wait to start multiplying my AdSense income. :)

I've created a site in two days. That was enough to start making AdSense pay me virtually immediately.

I think it's important to have a right mindsent. Motion beats meditation. Just do the damn thing. Put it up. It doesn't have to be perfect. You'll have a chance to improve later.

J_Evans, yes, that would be my approach, or, if at all possible, I'd have a really basic introduction to tires on the tires page. Then I could add to that page, set up pages on snow tires, retreads, etc., that I linked to from the tires page, etc.

Start with a structure that's fully functioning, but that can be expanded and filled in as you go along.

it depends what you're working and what you want to do.

i have finished one of my webs for two days. it has also PHP/MySQL.

I'm working now on new project which I find very interesting and it's very rare to find on internet (if it exist). This new project will cost me a half year to work on it.

I found that some sites, like my blog, are easy to put up with just a page or two and can be "remodelled" every year or so when the motivation strikes.

Other sites, like my photo gallery, I like to do a big chunk at a time then let sections bake for a while.

I don't think this has a lot to do with adsense unless you're looking at angles like how adsense treats sites that change over time.

It seems to me that adsense can be fickle with content moving around on a low-traffic site. It takes a while to catch up and realize that you're not up to shenanigans. (Sorry, it's hard not to personify the thing)

Sometimes it takes only a week to make something simple.
I believe in long-term improvements and additions of new content, so I work on my sites every day. I add one article a day on each site, and they slowly grow to proper info sites, rich in content. I consider mature site as at least one year old, with about 300 pages.

The site being new you don't need to worry about it being ready for Adsense - you won't have traffic anyway. My advice: put your website online as soon as it looks apparently complete, then focus on building traffic by adding new pages, getting inbound links, etc and sign up for Adsense later. It's like a tv channel - you must first build your audience, then sell ad space.

Let's see - I started on my site in 1999 with about 10 pages... now I have 75,000 and I'm still not *finished*
