March 2006: In Like a Lamb, Out Like a Lion

After 9 months of constant increases in Adsense revenue for my site I saw my first decrease in February. Then for the first 3 weeks of March things were much worse still and I was sure that March would be a 2nd month of decreases.

However things started to pickup in the last 10 days quite a bit and suddenly it looks more like a plateau with Feb than a 2nd consecutive drop.

My Adsense is on a big forum, so, it's tough to earn money from Adsense. 60,000 ad views a day with between 100 and 120 clicks a day and the only reason that the daily total seems to go up and down is the eCPM varies so widely every day.

Who knows why, but for the past 10s the eCPM has been significantly higher for my site than the first 3 weeks of March.

Same here going like gang busters, should reach $100 mark again today, both times in the last couple of weeks. Due to higher EPC.

Just the opposite for me...March started out great, the last week off by over 50%.

Best month ever. Yesterday at a near record eCPM.

Exactly the same situation here. Page views are the same only ECPM started to climb about 10 days ago, almost 1.5x better than at the beginning of March.
I am not complaining ;)

Great month! Traffic is unbelievable setting all types of records including traffic, eCPM, earnings and website sales. I have increased my earnings by thousands of dollars every month for the last year. I would say that seo has been the single most contributing factor. My search engine rankings are great for Google, Yahoo and MSN. I am also seeing a record in return visitors.

I would say this has been the best month for me so far.

This month I lost the first 2 weeks to BigDaddy, was running solely on site's direct type in traffic which is 50% of my visitors. Still March earnings are better than Feb and also Jan. It's good to have independent traffic.

Best month ever :)

Lousy and the start, struggling at the end, but who ever said beware the Ides of March got it well wring this year :)

In my case things are partically pushed up by increased traffic.

Daily average is lower than February, but today is exceptional! I already hit at 12 noon what I typically earn at around 6 pm. So looking really good.

In like a lion, out like a lion, maybe a bit of drop off at the end.

I unblocked some advertisers (not MFAs!) and I think that's part of it.

Best month ever--I expect to beat January, which had been my previous best month, by 15% or so.

I'm just a small fish here, but this is also my best month ever :)

Why is this thread scaring me?

Also our best month ever, beating our normally top month of October by a hair. The CPM's have been nearly 50% higher than normal.

We're at the top of the rollercoaster. I'm waiting for a huge drop now. :)

Perhaps for uk publishers summer is coming, my sites get much higher traffic come warmer months... just an idea :)

I would have thought that for the majority of us, warmer weather means lower traffic as more people are on holiday and doing things outside instead of sitting hunched up in front of a PC.

no offence intended as this is not a "mine is bigger than yours" thread but 60,000 ad views a day is a small forum site in my view, I have one ad block per page, over 600,000 ad views a day and i consider myself a medium-large sized site.

Bad month for me.

First couple of days were the best I’ve had but, since the PR update traffic has dropped considerably. Earnings will be down more than 50% for yours truly.

Miguelito, I'm sure that's true for many forums. But some niches are smaller than others. My site has multiple top 3 rankings in Google search for my genre under various keywords and number one ranking in my exact subject keyword. And with that I get 1.5 to 1.8 million page views a month. With 75% of the visits returning visits.

There are 2 larger forums in my genre, but not specifically in my subject. And neither of them have Adsense.

March has been a record month for us, though not quite as high as we expected mid-month. Google's update a couple of weeks ago was followed by a sudden drop in our next site-wide smartprice update. Time will tell whether this was a blip or a shift in the landscape.

February was a great month for me. But March has sucked literally since day one. For the last 6 months or so, my monthly earnings have been pretty consistant. Suddenly, for march I'm down ~40%. Very dissapointing. What makes it worse is that traffic on my site seems to be UP this month 20%. My site always manages to grow each month, but this month's growth has been exceptional. Its like the clicks I do manage to get this month are all worth about a nickel each. Very dissapointing :-\

This month is no good for my main site. Revenues are going down. Had a really bad day yesterday. But I think this is the normal end of month blues.

In Like a Slug, Out Like a Snail... That about sums up my March. I remember the good old days of ~$3CPM

Thanks to a full 31 days in March I have one site that will be in the UPS club for the first time. I'll reach the magic mark around noon today.
