Jolly, if you want to be the first set 2 alarms. One for 19:55 and one for 20:00. When the first alarm goes off, log on to WW, create the post, move the mouse cursor to the submit button and wait...

Please don't get me wrong, I really do appreciate ASA giving us a heads up here, but common sense would say this is probably not the 1st place they should post this type of notice.

Why not just do what Yahoo did yesterday, they are having maintenance tonight also and just posted a message right on the stats page...easy enough.

Was it on the Adsense site? It was on the Adwords site but I don't remember seeing it on Adsense.

OTOH, announcing it here is both helpful and basic marketing. If possible, make sure you are the one writing your own press releases.
Of course, announcing it here and telling the publishers on the site are not mutually exclusive.

But I must say that I do appreciate not getting an email about it.

I imagine, as Powdork implies, that if Adsense sent out an email saying 'your account will be unavailable' then it could do more harm than good:

• heart attacks
  
• "why have i been banned" threads
  
• "why didn't adsense think about this first" threads
  
• support being inundated with questions/emails from people who will be asleep during the downtime
  

Like others, I give credit to Google for getting the balance and timing right.
