I understand that the first ad will always pay out the most, but for some reason with ebay and yahoo in the combination, the pages that have those ads, the payout stinks.

I'm gong to try to block ebay and yahoo for the next month and see if that helps at all..

Anyone try this?

Thanks

I've been blocking ebay ads for a long time. I never see yahoo ads. I didn't see many ebay ads either, but at the time there had been a good bit of discussion about the uselessness of them, so I thought I'd be better off without them.

I block both.

EVERYTHING that just adds a layer, no matter how "professional" gets blocked. If they do not DIRECTLY sell a service or product they are your competition.

I don't block them. In my niche, they actually pay pretty well.

both yahoo and ebay sell services and products.

you can: alternate ads or collapsing ad units.

Blocking eBay ads gave me good results. I'm very sure these ads don't pay a lot and mostly the ad just stinks (but there are always exceptions of course).

eBay style ads like "Buy cheap second hand Vatican cities online" are NonSense.

Thing about ebay ads is they only pay a few cents. Wheras most of my sites pay 25 to 75 cents a click Average is about 50 cents. So they could be a good idea if your ads pay very little but not if the dont! Same for yahoo.

Plus the ones I block are ebay affiliates. The yahoo ones have their ads on with the same advertisers that advertise on my pages via google. I have no wish to give yahoo less so they can get the click!

Wrong.

The ads are there because Google thinks they might represent the best return based on a lot of factors. The problem is that the adsense bot frequently gets it wrong, and places all sorts of junk in the ad block mistakenly thinking it will give the best return.

The only way to resolve Google's targeting problems is to block them yourself.

In my recent experiment of removing the block list to test how / if the algorithms have improved recently, I found that well paying ads are removed and replaced with these junk ads. One of the ads removed from my site what that of a personal freind who was aghast as to why I blocked his ad, and was showing an MFA instead. I explained the experiment and he thought I was off my rocker!

Thankfully restoring the block list restored the proper ads and my income.

Indeed the first ad isn't always the one with the best EPC. Google tries guessing but their algorithm is often wrong.

Really? I thought yahoo ads should be good.

I never see the ebay ads on my site, but quite a lot yahoo ads, anyway how do you know the ad of yahoo and ebay has lower payout.

The Yahoo ads that I see in my niche have always led me to a real product. Unlike ebay.

They lead to a product, but as an aff. link, and they have ads at the top. They are diluting your advertisers revenue. Why share it with them?

Nitros,

I did block them up till just over a week ago. I decided to experiment just before David did by freeing up some of my filter.

I am going to start to block one at a time. For this week, I will block Ebay. Next week, I will block Yahoo.

In 2 weeks, I will post the results.
