My thought is that that might give the Adsense bot plenty of chance to find out which ads works best. Then, after a couple of weeks, we reduce the number of ads to 4, then after a couple more weeks, down to 1. Or will the changing of numbers of ads confuse the bot?
The fewer ads your visitors see the least likely they are to find something interesting to click on IMO. My money actually went up when as an experiment I stacked 2 leaderboards on top of each other in a couple of area as people might click on 2 or 3 things they see of interest instead of just 1.

My experience has been 'less is more' but maybe I should start a new cycle of testing, there we go again!
21_blue, I think bot-wise all you need is one unit.
If you really want to confuse the bot: Change the content every day :-)
The bot is your friend, don't confuse it.
It's easily confused. A new page I put up today immediately showed very topic relevant ads specific to the product. I checked them out (no, I didn't click on them!) and hoped being so relevant, they'd get a good CTR, but I'd end up with the sales as the competition was much more expensive.
Blasted bot's been back and the page is now showing ads loosely related to the topic, but nowhere near as relevant :(
