Relevant U.S. ads on a bilingual U.S based site

foreign translation shows irrelevant ads

Here's my setup: bilingual site. Translation is pulled from database on-the-fly with a mouse click. Content in English and Russian.
The site is for a Russian-speaking community in North Carolina. Lots of info, news, tourist destinations, etc.

English content receives very relevant ads. However, when switching to Russian, I still get adds in English, however they are irrelevant.

Most of my visitors are bilingual, so I don't really need Russian ads, so that's no problem. I just can't get Adsense to display ads related to the content.

For example, I have a content page about Outer Banks, NC. English translation - vacations, hotels, beaches, etc., relevant.
Russian translation - nc insurance, or something with North Carolina but nothing about beaches, hotels, etc.

Is there any way to point adsense in the right direction? I keep some words in the original English, such as "Outer Banks" but most of the text is in Russian. The only minor success I've had so far is combining both English and Russian on the same page, but that doesn't look right.

Any other ideas?
Thank you.

You got that right, there's your solution, you can place an English paragraph at the bottom of the page, and read more about "section targeting".

Hi,

1) Make sure that your HTTP headers give the right charset so that the Mediabot has a chance to understand your Russian text.

2) Be sure to announce the correct major language of your page (eg "en" or "ru"? or "en,ru" or "ru,en") in the HTTP headers depending on what you are showing, again to help the bot read your page.

3) Put English (and Russian) keywords in the meta-keywords. The Mediabot *does* use this tag and your users won't usually see it.

Thanks,

I've been implementing the above steps before (meta description, keywords, lang=en or =ru) with minor success. Judging from my results, adsense pulls up relevant ads mostly based on the readable content (as opposed to metas.)

Phrase in English
seems to help too, but that's a dilemma: I don't want the site to look like a melting pot of two languages just for the sake of the adsense.

This hit-or-miss thing drives me nuts. Some content shows relevant ads, other stuff is laughable.

For example, I got a news posting about a bunch of figure skating stars coming to North Carolina. And I am getting ads on hair removal.
