AdSense placed in overall_footer?

Is this a Good Place for it?

I am trying to find the best places to display my ads, and I am very new to all of this.

When I initially inserted the AdSense code, I went to each .php file and added it in a centered frame and the bottom of the page. I then realized that placing the code once, in the footer, would do the same thing.

My question is, does the footer get reloaded and count as a view everytime a link it clicked (If I refresh the page, or just click on a forum or subforum, the ads do change)?

Also, will the AdSense scan the entire page, and not just the footer text when targetting the ads (I am not sure if enough time has ellapsed for my site to be properly scanned for targeted ads)? Keep in mine that this is a forum with a very specific audience, one that is not very likely to click on ads.

Thanks for any input.

I assume that the footer is simply "included" in the full page as an include file (I certainly can't think of any other way that you have it operating anyway).

If so, then the answer to both of your questions is "yes". In relation to targetting, you can point the AdSense bot to specific areas on your page, which can help (see AdSense control panel).

forum with a very specific audience

I have one of those, and have had great success with this idea:-

I use it in a footer include file on one of my websites... It's not in a big hitter zone (see the Google "suggested placement areas" map for details), but it does provide an option for people after they've read a given article on the site.

Jenstar mentioned at one of the conferences that the footer is a good place to consider putting an AdLinks unit.

Adlinks - footer? No way! If you have a content-rich website then I suggest placing a good AD at the bottom (right below articles) which seems to have a great CTR

my opionion is that best way to place ads is bottom of the page (depends what kind of content do you have, it's best for text content). i'd not place ads in the middle, because if visitor is reading article from beginning to middle (where you want to place ads), it's more chances that he'll read article to the end, simply ignoring ads you place in middle.

Well, I'm having a new problem. I am comparing the AdSense Impressions to my Awstats page views ... and they aren't adding up. AdSense is reporting ~70 impressions, and Awstats is reporting 171 page views. Yesterday, Awstats reported 1000+ page views, and AdSense reported ~500 impressions.

The 'busy' times for the site are between 2-4pm and 8pm - 2am. I am averaging 1100 views/day.

Could this have something to do with the placement of the ad in the overall_footer?

Not everyone has javascript enabled in their browsers and some people have ads blocked so there will always be some discrepency in web stats compaired to adsense stats.

Do you think it's better than a top of the page?

Some people may not scroll the page down. I've got an informational site and receive many visitors looking for products, not just information. I'm going to add AdSense to give them a chance to find products, but I guess they leave my site without scrolling pages down.

They say you only have 15 seconds to capture the surfer's attention. I think this is one of the reasons the AdSense needs to be above the fold. If they're only there 15 seconds, they're not going to scroll down. If they're not going to stay on your site, at least you can get the click.

Have you read over these adsense tips from adsense help? There is good information there.
