Safe CTR.

Hi, what do people consider to be a "safe" CTR before Google get concerned?

This month my CTR has gone up by a further 4% and I am now getting an average CTR of 18%. I'm worried about Googles sensitivity to this sort of thing. As far as I am aware they are all legit clicks.

Well if I was you I would be emailing Google and showing concern - that seems extremely high. Work with them and share your concerns.

I was thinking of doing that. Its just that I've heard the horror stories before of Google actually not being bothered to take the time to investigate it and just removing the account instead.

Without seeing the quality or authority of your site it's impossible to judge however there are posters here who average 35+% CTR.

Personally my core sites average around 5% however I also have niche sites which average up to 30% therefore it's impossible to advise.

If you're concerned ask the Adsense team.

If Google bans every site that shows a spike in clicks, it seems to me that everyone would be banned. There's got to be more to it than just a sudden jump in click throughs. Anything that is done randomly will show wide variance in effects. They must apply some probability or chaos theory type science to their algorithms to make sure they're not unfairly banning sites.

Hi, what do people consider to be a "safe" CTR before Google get concerned?

If I remember correctly I seem to remember a post from a knowledgeable insider that CTR's of 25+% invoked manual Google checks.

Or was I dreaming at the time? :-)

As a matter of reassurance, those sites of mine that have 30% have never had a problem, they're very focused and applicable to their niche and my advertisers love them:-)

One day I had a CTR of 100% for almost half of the day, then main traffic came and evened it.

Yep, remove your url it's against the T&C's here.

I had a quick look, nice site and very focused applicable ads, I wouldn't be concerned at all.

Only one question!

Why are you not using an Adlinks block in your lhs column, it's a tailor-made position for it and the hot spot. On my core sites I get 40-50% earnings with Adlinks and on the niche sites as high as 70+%.

I know you're using horizontal Adlinks on some pages however I have always found that consistency of navigation through a site pays off...then again there are those who take the supermarket Ad blindeness route and keep swopping them around to keep the visitor alert.

You can only edit posts for a certain period of time after the initial posting.

If you don't see "Edit" to the left of your post, try contacting a mod or use the "report a problem" link at the bottom of the page.

I have had higher monthly ctrs and everthing seems far so far. The increase in my ctr has been totally legit as it has has happened over various stages after I have carried out optimisation.

If there is a reason for your ctr going higher such as a change in traffic pattern or re vamped web pages, i am sure gooogle will figure it out. I wouldn't worry.

I have consistently higher CTR's than that everyday and have yet to worry about it...

As long as you are not doing anything wrong with the wa you serve ads, and as long as you know the google Adsense TOS inside and out, then you should be fine...
