AdSense click-tracking script

Is it safe?

I decided not to be an early adopter of the AdSense click-tracking script that's been talked about occasionally here, but it's been nearly a year since it has gained popularity and I think it's time to give it a try. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any trouble with it. I'm kind of surprised that I haven't seen anyone blame the script for any problems so far.

Can I assume it is safe?

I'd say they are safe, in that they don't interfere with the click. But expect a fair amount of false positives and double log entries for some clicks. All in all, I would highly recommend using it. The statistical information gathered using that script helped me to nearly double the click through rate.

One extra benefit, was detecting an automated clickbot that was targeting UK ads- and banning it. Something I wouldn't be able to do without a script like this.

Can't help you there, I use my own custom software to track the clicks.

Well, last night I got a generic script from a script download site and modified it to start saving click information in a database. I only placed the script on one of my sites, in one section of the site, though that section makes more money in AdSense than any other part of any web site that I manage. (and it contains about 20,000 pages....)

I was instantly amazed as the data started rolling in. With this limited sampling of data my first impression is that probably 90% of the clicks are coming from 5% of these pages.

I'm not sure what to do with this information, but it appears to prove the point that it's not how many pages you have in your web site, it's how many good pages you have on your web site.

Any suggestions for what I can do with the data?

dataguy,

What about CTR? Have you got 90% vs. 5% because of the CTR or the number of page hits difference?
