Good point hunderdown, but they did that at the expensive of not paying the publishers for it.
Ha ha, that's funny. They didn't pay for it, so to them it wasn't an expense. It was at the expense of the publishers!
I'm still boggled as to why they are promoting FF so much though - I mean, they didn't buy that item, right? So, what are they gaining by having other people use that browser. It's almost as though they're doing it just to spite Internet Explorer.
How do we know that Firefox didn't pay Google for the impressions?
Google has been doing more and more shady things lately, including opting me in without notice for their "advertise on this site" campaign, and penalizing my whole account without notice.
We can't track what programs a visitor installs after they leave our sites, so on top of getting paid for impressions, they could have easily skewed the conversion reports also.
That is not the case, adding the Firefox button doesn't necessarily affect your ads space for other ads, that is a matter whether you are willing to make it.... there is no hate nor offense to anything, but an attitude and sight to have.
And.. the alternative is IE, where the default home page is MSN network and the default search is MSN search... every IE user is another eyeball for MSN that might not go to Google.
It is pretty obvious why Google would want everyone to switch to FF...
They just want to make more money........ It's that simple.
Of course they may hate Microsoft or then again they might feel they can simply do a far better job than MS can - thus making money. Either way, it's about money.
