Probably routing issues...

Check your connection to Google.

Assuming you're using Windows go to the start menu and click "Run..." then run "COMMAND". From the command prompt enter "tracert google.com" or "tracert google.ca" or whatever Google you use and see if the route to Google breaks / times out somewhere along the way.

If it does break, report it to your ISP as they may need to initiate a ticket on the problem.

According to this (http://www.20min.ch/handy_und_tech/pc_und_internet/story/27607699) it's a distributed DOS attack against google.

And since users from different regions are routed to different datacenters, only European users (and maybe asian?) are affected.

Ashii: Thanks for the translation. Everything is totally clear now :-)

Here is part:

According to InterNet expert David Rosenthal became the overloading of Google - if it were actual Denial OF service an attack - probably
by a so-called offer Net causes: "usually in addition innumerable PCS are gekapert unnoticed by a virus. On a certain instruction from the InterNet the in such a way hooked up computer army floods a certain server with inquiries without the owners of PC somewhat notices."

Yep, you are right Tropical, that makes everything totally clear :-)

Just a note to say I very briefly was not able to get on G this morning from Cent.Am.

2 minutes later I was fine so I didn't think much of it until I saw this post. Interesting timing for a DOS, hmmm.

Yup, there was a definite outage here in Old Europe about 17 hours CET, affecting all Google services.

Personally I think it was just the Internet's inbuilt defenses trying to take a breather from serving all that traffic to and from the massive entity Google has become.

Or possibly Steve Ballmer threw another chair and it squashed an important cable ;-).
